Secondary options in Stony Stratford

Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of good secondary schools around Stony Stratford?

We are looking at a house on the south side of Stony Stratford and am aware that the Radcliffe school is the catchment. I've been warned that houses in MK are great but schooling can be tricksome...

Just look at the results of the schools and Ofsted inspections and you will see the pecking order of the MK schools. Like everywhere, some are better than others. In Bucks there is RLS at Buckingham so you could look at their catchment.

Having lived in MK for 34 years I totally agree with the words 'houses are great but schooling tricksome'. Both of my girls went to private school in Bedford for senior school because the local school they were offered was quite frankly appalling, despite me not putting it on my list of choices. My eldest came back to MK College at 16 which turned out to be equally bad, but it was around the corner and she was an A* student so did well. My youngest has just started a state 6th form in Bedford too which is very good. Most of my DD's friends from MK went to senior school in Bedford or the Buckinghamshire Grammar schools to be honest.

Most schools give preference to catchment and feeder schools. The better schools tend not to take children out of catchment, and sometimes not children who didn't go to feeder schools.

if you look at the council website the admissions booklet has information about the basis on which children were admitted last year.
There are new secondary schools being built in MK at the moment, and although not particularly near Stony Stratford, this will have the effect of creating places and may have a knock on effect to school availability.

I went to The Radcliffe school. I live out of area now but still have local friends who's children will be going there. It is up and down in the last few years but I think it is doing well now. I have family who have worked there in recent years who are all positive about it.

I would send my children if I lived locally still.

I also think highly of Denbigh school.

My friends DD went to the Royal Latin grammar school in Buckingham, but she was already there before moving to Stony Stratford. There was a school bus.

You might be able to get them into Shenley Brook End School which is excellent

Shenley has a priority admissions area which doesn't include Stony Stratford.

As someone said earlier, many secondaries prioritise feeder primary school and catchment and if the local secondary isn't very good then they go for a Bucks grammar.

Ousedale School, Newport Pagnell, and Elizabeth Woodville in Deanshanger are more likely to have places and both good schools.
