Anyone heard of Xavier Academy Trust?

That is apparently what our Catholic comp is joining as of end of August. Googling throws up nothing.

We were aware that there was a possibility of changing to academy status last November as we were invited to a meeting (which I couldn't make). Have heard nothing since then but was aware that acadamisation was probably going ahead. TODAY, we get the summer term newsletter - apparently there was some kind of glitch on the last day of term so it wasn't sent out (this usually translates as "someone forgot to do their job") - and buried in the small print is half a sentence about the change.

I'm not a fan of academies but can't get too excited about the change as we are almost through with the school but I am annoyed that the communication has been non-existent and that school seem to have joined up to some kind of ghost trust!

A lot of RC diocese are setting up their own academy chains to avoid the possibility of forced academisation from this government. Essentially it is a way of keeping the status quo in all but name. I would check the websites of other local RC schools to see if they are going down the same path.

On the plus side, you might start getting pupils with exciting mutant powers.

Thank you both! Mutant power pupils eh? Grin Thanks especially to Redrule who got it right. I looked on another Catholic school website and they had included a bit more information, including the schools in the trust, the fact that it changed name from a previous one, and even details on the trustees. Bit of a poor show on the part of our school!

I am wondered if reason for going academy route was because so many schools already have coupled with fact that there is a school place shortage. So any school left in LEA control will have no choice but to take lots ( and lots) of extra students?

Xavier trust is registered company - can see details at Companies House. Registered address is the other secondary.

Was bored - so did a bit of googling.

Xavier trust is registered company

All academy trusts are registered companies. The law requires an academy trust to be a charity formed as a company limited by guarantee. Many charities take this form.

It was all initiated by the, fairly justified, belief that this govt wants all schools to be academies. So the RC diocese nationwide have gone down this route in order to preserve a certain autonomy. How effective it will be is yet to be discovered!
