Hi,

I don't know what I'm wanting to get from this thread, perhaps just a chance to write it down!

DS is 12, in yr 7 and travels 15 miles to school on a private coach.

On Wednesday afternoon there was an incident on the bus, a few children were throwing around a tiny ball of paper which ended up landing on DS, he then threw it back and it landed on the floor. The driver asked who threw it and DS admitted it ( he was the only one who admitted it, the other children kept quiet) so the driver asked for DS's bus pass and told him he'd have to make his own way to school the next day.

We were very cross with DS and he was very remorseful.

That evening we emailed the bus company to clarify how long the bus pass would be confiscated for, we got a quick reply stating that the driver over reacted and would be spoken to in the morning and that DS was to travel as normal.

The next morning DS got on the bus fine ( same driver), however when DS went to get off at school the driver told him to wait to talk to him and told him that he wouldn't be taking him home that evening and that the driver had lost his bus pass.

DS rang me in a panic and I told him not to worry. I rang the bus company to find out what was going on ( as we'd been told all was fine!) and they refused to speak to me, and would only talk to school. So I rang school who were furious that the driver happily drove DS to school and then threatened that he'd be left behind that evening. They said to leave it with them. That lunchtime I had a call from one of the SLT to say that they'd spoken to DS and the bus company and all was sorted. The SLT said they needed to punish DS in some way as the bus company wanted to see them trying so he said they would give DS a detention, which I'm fine with. He did wrong and needs to know that. I arranged to pick DS up after school that day to give him a break from the bus. School arranged a temporary bus pass.

Roll on yesterday, DS got to school fine. A different bus driver, according to DS gave him a dirty look but allowed him on fine. I didn't hear anything more from the school or bus company so thought it was all sorted. After school I got a message from DS to say that he'd be late home as a different driver had refused him travel so he'd had to go on a different bus. I immediately rang him and he was upset as this driver pointed at him and aggressively told him he wasn't to get on his bus. I rang school to find out if they'd heard anything from the bus company, and apparently they'd had a very fiery chat with them as the behaviour on the bus is shocking. I don't disagree but then why is it just DS who is being punished?! I rang the bus company again and they still wouldn't talk to me.

I now don't know when this will end. I also don't understand the behaviour protocol. I spoke to one of DS's friends mums last night and apparently a large group of an older age group have recently been on report from bad behaviour on the bus. They had to behave for 2 weeks or would have their pass confiscated. In which case, why was DS's taken immediately?!

DS is now feeling anxious about it all, and I don't really know what to do!!

The bus company are clearly fed up and taking it all out on your ds.
The school need to sort this out. They have the contract, power and control with the bus company, not you or your ds.

You would think the other boys would have stood up for / stood by him Angry

Sounds rotten. is there any other way for your ds to get to school?

Then the school just has to sort it out. Make it clear if he can't go on the bus he can't get to school.

who contracts the bus? Is it school or the local council?

no extra port of call there then.
I'd ask the school to facilitate a meeting between you and the bus company if this doesn't resolve.

Bus company here have removed one of the buses - meaning a whole group of kids can't get home - behaviour on the bius was appalling!

Ask if school could offer a chaperone on the bus or if there is any video evidence?

Can you get an MP involved?

You need something in writing from either the school or both.
