Anyone want to hold hands while waiting for City offer/rejection ? Feels like everyone else is sorted (bar Westminster - not sure when they are out) and we are the last to hear! How did you all feel the interview went ? My DS was not too happy coming out so if that is a good indication then I should not be holding out too much hope. Did anyone feel it went well ? Any scholarship hopes ? What is it about City that you liked above the others ?

We chose City last year over LU, MTS and Hampton. It was a difficult decision. Academically they are comparable. My experience with dealing with the admission at LU was irritating, so I already had a grudge against them and I was not too keen on the coed side of things. I found them arrogant somehow as well, but it was their attitude about not offering alternate days for exam clashes when all the other schools happily obliged that annoyed me. It was the closest to home though, and obviously a nice school. Having only that one to accept we would have been delighted of course. MTS was quite far despite the coach ride and not playing football in the ISFA league, so we turned it down easily, but again would have happily accepted it if it was the only offer. Then it was down between Hampton and City really for us. Hampton is suburban and homogenous, whereas City is central and exciting. We don't regret it, DS is happy and likes the school.

Yes we are waiting for City but don't expect good news. DS found the interview tough and feels he didn't give the answers they were looking for. I've heard some had logic questions but he had a passage, picture and a dilemma. How about you?

We had logic/poem/passage. DS didn't feel it went well. We are also waiting for Westminster but again he didn't think that went well either! We have a couple of other offers - one from a top school but l won't know how l'll feel about which to take until l have all the offers and rejections in my hand.

We have an offer from LU and are waiting on City, SPS & Westminster. If he gets City we won't know which to take (assuming a "no" on SPS & W). Leaning towards LU. Hear very few negatives about it.

Yes I've heard mostly good things about LU. We didn't look at Westminster. My DS had no logic question at City so I think that's looking bad for him.

We didn't have a dilemma question @ City. They couldn't ask everyone the same questions in case of information sharing for those with later interviews. I would imagine they have a pool of questions to choose from. It doesn't mean anything.

No true but most have had the logic question. DS was also one of the first through the door. He looked very unhappy on leaving.

Well there's three of us on here that felt the interview didn't go well. Wonder did anyone feel it went well?

I'm relieved that it wasn't just my DS that felt it didn't go well. Of the three he did it was the hardest, although he did say that the interviewers were very nice to him.

Mandzi34 ditto my DS. The interviewer said "well done" @ the end but my DS's heart was in his boots at that stage. He was alsonthe first out of his group so he doesn't believe he'll get an offer. I'm keeping an open mind but DH who brought him says its a "no". We'll see.

My DS was tearful after it last year - the only one I felt unable to take him back to school. But in the end he got a really good offer from there so don't give up hope.
Can't help more as the slightly disorganised day plus the nasty interview put us both off and we went elsewhere but just wanted to share that bad interview doesn't mean game over!

Why do City persist with the rotten interview? They have a huge rejection rate & the interview can't help. Where did you take in the end citycat?

The interview seems to throw a few curve balls at the kids - I think it's to see how they react. We found sps the same.

City definately had the most rigorous exams and interviews from what I saw. I saw poor kids in tears on the steps after the exams and DS looked like he'd pulled a marathon all night harry potter film fest (pale, dark circles under the eyed, second wind all excited).

We have to decide which now and I can't complain but its another headache.

Oh and DS didn't know how he did but from what he told me he said I thought "uh-ohhhhh*". (This was last year). Questions were maths, English reading and a question on the passage which became a history discussion about republicanism and philosophy.

*crazy or genius

sdavlistentomother, is that Friday the 19th or last Friday the 12th?

Can someone please clarify whether you're talking about the CLSB 11+ or 13+ entry on this thread?

Re-reading the thread, I see now that it's Feb 19th.

Can I lurk as DS1 is waiting for MTS also posted Thursday. It feels like a very long wait.

DS was okay after the exam. He said the exam was tough as he'd expected but he'd given every question an answer and felt he'd done his best. The interview threw him completely though and he looked so down beat.

Report
Mandzi34 · 14/02/2016 13:09

DS said they asked him which schools he'd applied to. Were your boys asked this?
