...does anyone know where I can find a national breakdown of the % of students that get each grade? Before anyone says LMGTFY I did try! Grin

Slide 22 gives results distribution for btec firsts which I think are the GCSE equivalent ones. You do really need to specify what level of btec you are after, they go up to university level I believe.

The Btec statistics are a complete nonsense.

The lowest grade that can be predicted is a merit, however low the previous achievements.

Low and behold, the average grade for people with non existent previous education is a Merit,

Because they HAVE to achieve what is predicted, or the teachers get put on capabilities

so this then confirms for the following year, that the average grade for someone with no previous achievement is a merit.

Which, wonder of wonders, is the average grade they get!!!!

Btecs are an excellent course and fantastic opportunity for learning for students not suited to the academic route but the predicted grades and average grades are utterly meaningless, and another example where the irrational pressure being put on teachers is ruining education.
