Is it possible to get a scholarship for a year 2 pupil for a private school?

Do you mean a bursary or a scholarship?

A scholarship, I know nothing about the edcuation system and I'm just starting to review some options. I believe our total income is too high for a bursary.

Not too familiar with scholarships at junior level - Y2 is an odd entry request being out of year, they normally tend to be for reception, Y3 (7+) and then Y7 (age 11+) is for senior Y9 (13+) and then scholarships for 16+.

Scholarships are made available for 11+ entry, not below but you may want to look at the websites of the schools you are prospecting. The amounts are minimal (10% being the average, for music, art or drama...occasionally sport) but can be topped up with bursary if you qualify. It's more about the prestige vs the amount, with exhibitions also on offer (free music lessons). Each school varies...

Thank you. I'll give the school a call tomorrow to see what options there are if at all. Thank you for your help.

Yes, the reason I asked about whether you wanted a scholarship or bursary is because scholarships very often have only a nominal value, maybe a couple of hundred pounds or some free music lessons. I don't know if they are generally common in pre-prep and as someone else said, Yr 2 is not a normal entry point so I think it is unlikely you will find much. Is there a particular reason why this is important to you?

If any scholarships or bursaries are not clearly set out on the school's website and in its prospectus I would be rather wary.

While one can never look for total transparency in a private enterprise these things should ideally be available for scrutiny and comparison. If they have nothing written down then you have nothing to rely on.

But scholarships to year 2 would be highly unusual.
