School ties with polo shirts! Is this a trend?

Just wanted to ask this to see if it's some kind of trend as not seen it before.

DS is in year 9 and his school has a choice of either shirt and tie or polo shirt, the last few weeks he and several of his friends have started wearing a tie with a polo shirt! He said he does it because everyone else is. Is this heard of?

It's about time 'chav' got added to the 'hate speech' list, isn't it? ('Cis' is in the running.)

I'd rather be a chav that a cis...

Be? Or be called?

Can't we ditch both?

Floggingmolly Wed 18-Nov-15 23:02:32

Be called. Yes to ditching both; but ditch cis first...

Classic teenager thing. We had school shirts with buttons all way up like mens shirts. No tie. Worn 'open necked'. Uniform Changed to a supposedly neater blouse with folded back ' rever collar'. Everyone started pinning the rever up to make it look buttoned up like the shirts we used to have but which were never buttoned up. Pushing the rules. Good luck to them

A polo shirt is 'active wear' .A tie is formal, so no!

I wouldn't say most of them were chavvy in any way, some girls have started doing the same thing. I think it looks silly but DS persists!

We were meant to wear blue thin polo necks under our revere collar shirts in the winter but it was considered cool (for some reason) to wear a white t shirt with it showing. Both looked rubbish but at least one felt a bit cooler!

At some point the management team will snap at your son's school and try to ban this look! Let them just get on with it.

Are you being sponsored to say that horrible word a certain number of times or something Waiting?

our primary school wear plain white polos, and i think they look nice

I wish older DCs school would wear them instead of the full on shirt/tie/blazer...

How horrible! 😂 where are you from can I ask? I didn't leave a school too long ago myself and I've never heard of it.
