8c in maths by end of yr 7?... Is this normal? Both are predicted to achieve this but surely not by end of yr 7?

Are you sure it's an end of Y7 target and not end of Y9?

Also are you sure it's a national curriculum level and not some weird new system the school has got? Levels have officially been scrapped.

If it is a national curriculum level and it's for end of Y7, then yes that is very good.

Sounds ridiculously high for end of year 7, your DC must have got a 6 at primary. Means your DC would be capable of A* maths in year 8 and new fpgrade Level 9.
As pp said - sure it's not end of ks3?
Your child will not make any progress over 5 years if an 8 now.

This is why I'm totally confused, the covering letter says 'predicted end of year' and I know that mine are going to hit/are hitting another system change. It's a learning curve for us all :-/ but I'm totally confused and wasn't expecting an end of term report, in primary there was just an end of year report...

It doesn't make sense, we have a meeting with their new teacher (twins you see) so I'll speak to them then. They did both get 6 in sats, it's just with them coming homing with 8c now I'm really worried I'm going to let them down. I can't support the maths the way they do it. If the school put pressure on them then their love of learning may change and that's what worries me most. They're very free and easy nippers and we've never put any importance on results, rather that they find everything fun and curious. In primary you seem to have more input with the teachers but now I'm just nervous that the school will put pressure on them. All their results are 6 or 7 which is now worrying me even more that individual teachers may start pulling at them and suddenly learning, which was fun, is now pressure. PS. This is not me blowing a smart trumpet, we fought for years as one of our twins was bullied to the extreme I just wanted advice on how best to approach this.

Ignore it. Let the school get on with it. They are unlikely to put excess pressure on high achieving Y7s to achieve very high end of year targets, most energy in secondary is focused on exam classes.

It sounds like the twins are doing well. If they are enjoying school then stop worrying!

I suppose it's the letting go a bit more I'm having to get used to... I just keep feeling I should be doing something. Oh dear, I suppose is them growing up :'(
