I'm afraid that I still don't understand what UMS are, and I am getting the impression that they are actually quite important!

Could some kind person please explain how the UMS marks obtained in this year's AS levels will impact upon next year's A2s?

The overall A2 grade is determined on total UMS from AS+A2. To gain an A* at A2, greater than 90% UMS must be achieved in the A2 units (as well as enough UMS from AS+A2 to achieve an A grade overall).

Thank you! That is quite easy to understand, unlike some of the official explanations I have read!

Some papers are hard , some papers are easy so it wouldn't be fair to just use raw marks (actual marks scored). These raw marks are adjusted to account for differences in difficulty between different boards, subjects and sittings, so that say a 'B' grade is the same whenever it was sat, in what subject and with what exam board.
