Dd has so many GCSE's she has to do that she only gets to choose 3. Dd wants to do some kind of I.T and computering. Problem is there is no cross over of the two you can do CiDA (certiftate in digital applications) or computering (which is the programming). Yes dd could do both but not keen to narrow her options just to one area.
Dd pasion is maths and science and she hopes to do some kind of enginering not sure area yet. Any words of wisdom would be great as we are finding this choice very hard.

I would imagine that computing (GCSE?) is more intellectually challenging, and will require better maths ability. Whereas I think CiDA is more about using programs.

Broadly speaking I would expect computing to be more 'use' for a maths/science/engineery sort.

(Speaking as someone who worked in software for 20 years following a maths degree).

Best to check syllabus for each.

ps 30 years ago my DB did a science degree followed by a phD and did lots of programming in his phD for theoretical physics.

DS2 is making this choice at the moment. He has chosen Computing.

She won't need either to do computer science later on. For engineering, she'll need decent maths and physics -- anything else is a bonus.

My Y10 dd is taking the CIDA she has been designing and building websites using relevant programs such as HTML etc. She is loving the course - those taking Computer Science are finding it hard going!

Thanks catslife are start to move to CiDA and sounds like a lots of work but a less intellectually challenging. As she will doing 10/11 GCSE's which will include triple science. Dd been told by all her teacher she capable to get mostly A's if she willing to pull her socks up. So might be nice to do something a little more creative as all her subjects are pretty heavy.
