GCSE Graphic/Graphic Communication or or History

Like many others, DD has to make her KS4 option choices.

Maths, Eng Lang, Eng Lit and Science are compulsory (nothing else is). She could do Triple Science but feels she struggles in the top set, and in view of the fact she could be doing six other GCSEs, might opt for Double Science.

She is in the top language set and if they take two languages, they can do six GCSEs and are guaranteed to get all six choices. Initial thoughts are:

Music
Textiles
French
Spanish
Geography

She has one more guaranteed option. She's not interested in anything computerwise, but feels Graphic/Graphic Communication might be useful (bearing in mind what she might want to do jobwise and having something computer related to give an all rounded subject choice). Her other choice is history which she really enjoys and is good at, her reservation is that she's not so interested in the course content of American history & medicines.

Jobwise, she's like to be an author (although acknowledges she might try this alongside a main career), interior designer or other form of design. She's intererested in the environment and conservation and also old features on properties and doesn't want these to fade out, so whether these aspects might be incorporated into a job I don't know.

I think in light of her interests Graphics sounds like a good option. If you'd said she wanted to be a lawyer or something like that I might verge more towards history.

I would go for history.
If she enjoys it she will do well.
My son does graphical products and he really finds it dull.

She already has two art based subjects in Music and Textiles. History and Geography would be heavy on the humanities side so I would take the subject she will do best at. Both are a bit icing on the cake as her current choices are just fine.

There are conservation specialist jobs and heritage protection officers who work alongside local authority planners. If she wants to do History A level, not having the GCSE could be a problem. Computer skills can often be learnt at a later date when they are job specific. Apart from English Lit, she does not have another obvious essay subject on the list. For someone who wants to write, this might be a consideration, especially when it comes to A levels.
