How many of each items of uniform do you buy for your dds in secondary school.

If they can wear skirts and trousers, how many of each?
Same with jumpers, shirts, blazer etc.

Not so much P.E kit as they depend on school, i know it varies a lot.

I am budgeting, rather early but like to be prepared.
Also, any tips you may have found useful.

Two pairs of trousers. One jumper if it dries quickly, otherwise two, just in case. Five shirts. One blazer. I have only bought one of each PE item, but I know some people double up if their kids are in teams.

DS1 and DS2 each have the following:
1 blazer
2 ties (because one always gets lost)
2 pairs of trousers
3-4 shirts
1 jumper

ds cycles and plays football at lunchtime, so I thought he would need several trouser changes in a week. In fact he wears same pair.
We have:

6 shirts (clean one every day, packs of 2)
3 trousers
1 blazer
1 tie (then got spare at second hand sale)
1 jumper

One each of pe kit, which does mean that football kit comes home muddy and has to be re-worn next day sometimes.

It is about right, but we only needed 2 trousers.

This year dd only has 1 pair of trousers as she is very funny about them and we could only find 1 pair in her size that she would accept aspie

But normally

2 trousers
2 jumpers
2 ties (one spare that she doesn't know about)
6 shirts

No blazer as its not part of their uniform

1 blazer (and it's into its 3rd year!)
1 skirt
1 jumper ( hardly ever wears it but wanted the slim knitted one for under blazer) we have old sweatshirt jumpers top if needed
A million blouses ! (As she has hers and dd1 old ones as spares ) you need one a day. We managed with 3 initially but 5 would be ideal.

In year 7 my jumper strategy was 1 that fitted and 1 in the size above as a spare to grow into.

Boys need min 2 trousers as the day they split / tear thrm will be the day you can't get more. With the girls I initially biught dd1 one trousers and one skirt but it became clear that there was a trend within each year group as to what you wore - so with dd2 we only bought the "but everyone wears x" style. Basically it seemed year 7 wear trousers but after that they like to show their legs off lol.

Dd has one "good" of everything plus a back up skirt and jumper and games kit from second hand sale/ older style.

Blouses - it depends if they have hit puberty yet - if they have/will by then, you'll want a clean one each day
Blazer - 1 - with growing room to last at least 3 years
Trousers - 2....those saying 1, I can't see how that would work if they got splashed by a muddy puddle or spilled their meal on it ?
Jumper - depends - if have to wear their blazer all day and school is warm, then jumper won't be used. If not wearing their blazer, then prob need 2 jumpers.

DS2 has made it to yr10 with the following:
1 blazer (replaced once as grown out of)
1 trousers (new one each year)
5 shirts (replaced when grown out of -new one a day)
1 jumper ( only worn when really cold, bought larger in yr7 still fits)

He cycles to school and now wears CCF uniform one day a week so saves a little on the wear and tear of shoes but generally these are replaced annually or if he has a growth spurt.

My daughter's school insists on a particular brand for some items but others eg jumpers, can just be Asda etc so worth seeing which items need to be 'official'.

I'm not sure what the girls do but ds1 has rugby twice a week for games and they aren't allowed to shower, meaning his legs are muddy underneath his school trousers. Eugh.

In primary school they had clean uniform on every single day so 5 of everything (I've worked in primary and seen those noses picked, fingers in mouths, hands down knickers for a quick scratch)

Secondary he has
6 shirts because they are 2 x 3 packs (asda)
5 pairs of trousers (next and bhs)
3 jumpers (wears one for 2 days) because they were £15 each and not £4 from a supermarket.

I do a catch up wash of 2 days worth of uniform midweek. Jumper is non-tumble dry so just gets put on a hanger to dry then transferred to his wardrobe without ironing but I iron his shirts and trousers.

The only difference from primary was the jumper aspect. Ds1 is in full swing of puberty so he couldn't wear a shirt twice. He showers every morning.

I will start getting some of the basics every week I think.

Asda will be good for us as I'm sure pretty much is just basic black and white, their schools own jumper and blazer.

This has for me thinking - when I was at school I had one skirt, one blazer. 3 shirts and a blazer. All the parents were told to buy big and as a result year 7-9 we all looked ridiculous, yet 10 it fitted and year 11 it just about fitted. I guess the parents only had to pay out once though!

I bought DD the following...

White shirts - 6
Skirts - 2
Jumpers - 2
Blazer - 1
Tie - 2

She wore the jumpers to school last year but apparently Y8 are too cool for them so now she wears a hoodie under her blazer on the way to school and then leaves it in her locker for the day.

Depends on how you wash as well - I'm happy to use my tumble drier on a regular basis, so trousers and blouses you can get away with fewer as can 'turn something around' overnight, but you can't tumble dry a lot of the jumpers, so that means it's riskier cutting it down to bare minimum.

I had to buy school logo emblazoned and it cost a fortune

1 skirt (expect her to grown and need another before the end of the year)

2 shirts (22 quid a packet of 2, yellow flat collar )

millions of tights.

She does fine. I some times have to wash her jumper mid week if she hasn't worn an apron or deodorant.

I am dreading buying for ds at high school. He has 3 of everything. No way we can afford that!

1 blazer, 2 trousers, 1 tie, 5 shirts, 1 jumper ( which was a waste of money as he has never worn it, won't buy another, but he's yr 7 so isecondary uniform is new to me) .

And he's sporty so I've had to buy 2 PE polo shirts, 2 rugby tops, and 3 shorts. The shorts are white. He plays rugby in the mud in them. It's crazy. And football boots and trainers, the most expensive things. I bought a pair of jogging bottoms too, again a waste of money as never worn. DS does not seem to get cold.

Have to wash sports things mid week, in fact have had to do much more washing altogether than primary, but purely down to sport and the ridiculous white kit.
