Levels (Sorry to ask but very quick question)

DS1 in Year 7 (so my first child at secondary) - can someone answer a very simple question about levels please?

And I'm sorry if this has been done to death ...

Are children expected to make 2 levels of progress through KS3? So if they are assessed in the their first term (Year 7) as a Level 5, they are expected to be level 7 by end of Year 8 or Year 9? Does it make a difference if options are chosen at the end of Year 8?

Thank you.

It's at least 2 levels over 3 years so if options are taken at the end of Y8, you can expect the children to achieve a lower level than they should have at the end of Y9.

Levels have been binned though, so you might find it all changes.

Thank you.

Yes, I'd understood levels were being done away with, but every time I've asked a teacher (DS1 Y7, DS2 Y3), they've not known what will replace them, or when Smile.
