School tie in the shops

We had a minor disaster with the washing machine yesterday, long story short it burned some clothes (problem with water cycle, which I turned off quickly enough). Mercifully nothing expensive was damaged, and of course I never leave the house with it running in case of extremely rare problems like this. One thing badly damaged though was eldest's school tie. Phoned all places I can think of who say they don't stock the senior tie for her school, even the official supplier of the blazer. Only the school office has them. I know it means dd will have to go there first thing after the hols, which of course she will do but it would be much easier if it was available before then.

Can anyone think why a school would not have the senior tie anywhere but virtually everything else? One said they want the money for school funds, but don't they get that anyway?

My DCs school you can only get the Tie from the school. However you can buy a tie before school if you have the money and are in before school.
But I would phone friends and see if anyone has a spare, especially if anyone has older children. We have about 5/6 ties rattling about our house.

Ties are cut on the bias so to make the affordable are supplied in bulk. Email school and see what they say.

Our school ties are really expensive. I found a company selling them cheaper and bought them online. They are called Digby ties they might have the one you need.

Ours are only available from school, as are blazers, jumpers and PE kit. And the uniform 'shop' is only open on a Wednesday after school.

Since your DD can go in early and buy one, problem solved!

You seriously never go out when your washing machine is on?confused

DSs school give the senior ties to them for free (and takes away their old one --which I wanted to pass on to DS2!)

So I think that's why you can buy them in the one and only school supplier in town.

Oh yes and PE t-shirts can only be bought from school and must be specially ordered.

The ties will be a separate supplier to the blazer, so I wouldn't expect them to hold them (unless it's a private school and all the chi-chi uniform comes from one place). And it would be too small a volume item for an ordinary shop to hold (except maybe a specialist uniform supplier or other independent local shop in the summer to attract new entrants' families).

Schools are often open a day or so before pupils are in, so you could see if someone working is able to sell you one then. Worth a try?

And generally, ties are usually happier being sponged clean by hand and never going in the machine.

The office might be open a day or two before term starts. When do they go back?

Ask on the local FB selling site of anyone has a spare or an old one you can borrow/buy.

I don't see the issue just get one on the morning of the first day back

Your DDs tie is machine washable? DSs is dry clean only, so are all of DHs! Consequently he has several and we bulk dry clean when there is an offer on!
His tie comes from the same shop as the blazer (state school) although specials -prefect, choir, rugby 1st team are presented by the school so replacements can only be bought from them.

I never go out when the washing machine or dishwasher are switched on - they are two of the biggest causes of house fires. Water and high powered appliances are not a great mix to be left unattended.

I'd just let her wear it. It'll be a talking point.

Starlightbright1 Tue 30-Dec-14 15:07:49

You can only buy school sweatshirts from school. I would sooner profit went into the school than a shop TBH

LynetteScavo Tue 30-Dec-14 19:02:04

As I work full time and have 3 sporty DC there is no way I could only use the washing machine and dishwasher when we are in the house and awake. We would be wearing stinky muddy clothes.grin

Oh, and anyone without a tie just goes to the school office and borrows one for the day.... Same with any of the school uniform. It's a great idea because kids who don't want to wear the correct uniform because they are too trendy can't get out of it, and toes who can't afford the correct uniform are provided for.
