Ibstock and KGS 11+ clash

I have just realised that the Ibstock exam (whole day) clashes with the KGS interview day. I am by no means presuming that my DTs will get an interview at KGS but I can't be alone in finding this a ridiculous situation? When my older boy sat KGS his interview was during the school day, midweek but it appears they have changed to have all interviews on one day, like Latymer. There must be many, many children potentially affected by this and it just seems a really unnecessary added stress. The KGS material says they will interview 300 for 100 places, so it is not as though you even are pretty much assured of a place if you get an interview.

Any one else sharing my pain on this?

That is a pain but I am sure KGS will be flexible about interview dates. Ime schools always are. Isn't the Ibstock exam on 2nd anyway and KGS on 8th so how can KGS interview be before exam? I am confused.

Out of interest, when did you receive KGS info? I have a DD sitting 11+ and have received nothing.

're the 300 interviews for 100 places, don't forget schools always over offer (esp at KGS level) as they know full well there is a pecking order and most DC are sitting for multiple schools.

Thanks Castles. We received an email from KGS on Thursday.

Ibstock computerised tests and interviews are on 2nd or 5th (ours is on the 5th, as well as the Hampton exam - what a day). The Ibstock written exam is a whole day affair on 24th Jan.

The KGS info says: "The interview is an important part of the entrance process and all interviews are taking place on 24th January 2015." Doesn't seem to allow much scope for flexibility. As far as I know this date wasn't mentioned till now, nor was it publicised on the website (unlike Latymer, where the date is there for all to see before registration).

Yes the fixed interview date is definitely a new thing and one KGS hasn't done before. My DS was randomly called for an interview 2 years ago and we were pretty much able to choose a date. I'm going to call the Registrar at KGS tomorrow as I've not received that email. If I glean any information I'll pass it on.

I must say I am surprised about all the clashes. You'd think these schools would know and be more accommodating given that most DCs in SW London are all sitting the same ones!

The email says in case of queries, the registrar is in the office until the 17th Dec so you should get her tomorrow.

My DD has audition at another school which clashes with the original exam day...I called the registrar and she offered me 'the alternative examination date'. Didn't know there was one!! Sure that will also be the case if your DC is invited to interview...the secret alternative interview day that isn't widely advertised in case everyone wants to delay it for those extra few days preparation...!!?

of course there'll be alternative days. don't stress, wait and see if your dc gets an interview and if they do you'll just have to re-arrange. you won't be the only one and it won't be a big deal.

Schools are normally accommodating on issues such as these. My DD has clashing exam dates and other dates have been found for her.

Thanks all for the encouraging words - lets hope it is a problem that needs addressing!
