Any advice? DS will be sitting it soon, I'm hoping it'll go better than the last exam Hmm

Thanks

DS took it last year at Graveney.

Only advice

  • walk/go on public transport;
  • get there on time (but not too early - hanging around outside for ages is not the best idea);
  • get DS to wear a watch: it's multiple choice, if he's left any questions, in the last 5 mins he can go back and guess;
  • they get a break & drink and biscuits- have them!
  • I'm sure you've stressed this but remember to say to your DS that to do his best is good enough - a year on from it all I can absolutely say it is not the be all and end all.

DS did not end up in W/worth school in the end...he could have had that Saturday at home...

Good luck to your DS!

Have you had a letter yet with times?

Unless you're out of borough, he'll sit it during school time at school. DS and DD have done it in the past two years and it was very low key. There aren't many schools who use the results for admissions in Wandsworth though, which makes me wonder why the borough bothers to have it. Where are you applying to?

A fair few use it for fair banding admission, including those that administer their own additional aptitude tests for music, arts, languages, ICT etc.

Last year out of borough/independent school candidates only got info with details a couple of days before the test

The thing dd found hardest was the speed - there's no time to ponder any of the answers just do the question and straight onto the next one

Make sure your dc understands how to fill in the answer sheet - it's not unknown for children to miss out a row and then they're answering the wrong question for the rest of the test ..

Sorry, been away so haven't seen all the replies until now!

DS is at a Wandsworth school already so he'll sit the test with all his classmates on Thursday. We're not holding out huge amounts of hope for Graveney since they only take the top 2% and we live a fair way away, but a couple of the other schools DS is applying for are using fair banding and the only way we could get him in would be if he got a score in the top 20% (again, we're just too far away to get him in one of the other bands - the catchment area for the top 20% is bigger).

Our nearest schools are less than ideal (although we have put one down just in case) so hopefully he'll get into one of the others!

Thanks for the advice everyone! Smile Thanks
