Travel sickness

My daughter in Y6 is already worrying about going to secondary school because of the travelling she will have to do. The school is about 10 miles away and she sometimes suffers with travel sickness. It's a very good school so we do want her to go there but even now it's obviously playing on her (and my) mind.

Obviously, if the sickness does become an issue we will have to rethink things but I wondered if anyone has had a similar problem and what travel sickness remedies are most effective. I don't like the idea of doping her up every day (I don't even know if doping her up is an option tbh.)

DD2 has been sick twice on the bus/coach to school (she started in Y7 last week). She carries a sick bag with her every day. She says it's getting better. DD1 was occasionally sick too in Y7, she grew out of it fairly quickly. I'm afraid I can't offer any solutions but they do both say that it isn't affected them once at school.

Thanks, I have been asking friends about this and those with experience of travel sickness seem to be of the opinion that it isn't something a child grows out of, so I'm glad you think otherwise.

Well, I only know how it affected DD1. She still sometimes feels queasy but hasn't thrown up on the bus since Y8, she is now in Y12. They have the problem at certain times of the year of driving directly into the sun in the mornings and the afternoons, which doesn't help. And windy country roads.

Have you tried Seabands? They are worn on both wrists and we have successfully used them on our DC. One of them still uses them on very long journeys. They can be purchased at most chemists.

My brother is 32 and has not grown out of it but he's OK when he's driving. Luckily he didn't have to go to school by coach as he is bad on those so school trips were a nightmare and he can't go on theme park rides. You need to assess exactly how bad your daughter's travel sickness is.

On longer school trips I give my children Stugeron which I also take myself when necessary and it is brilliant. if it is a short trip eg 2 hours I would only have half a dose.
However i'm not sure about the implications of taking it every day.

Does she try to sit near the front in an aisle seat not window and look out the front at all times? Also, fresh air helps even a small fan and not being too bundled up in clothes.
