GCSE Art Remark

My DN got a B in his recent at GCSE and has just found out that school put it forward as an A and the external moderator downgraded all the students.

My Dsis knows that my DSs DT grade was remarked and went up so is wondering if it's either possible or worth getting Art remarked. I think he was 8/9 marks off an A.

Any advice for her please?

I think you can get anything remarked if you are prepared to pay for it to be done. It sounds like there is little chance of him dropping down to a C so why not try? With any other subject I would say 8-9 marks is too many to find but in an art exam where one examiner has said A and another B already - who knows. Could be worth a try. I wouldn't bother though unless this is a major stumbling block for the lad.

He's not too worried but since my sis heard DSs grade went up she's been thinking about it.

Anyone can apply for a remark, as long as they pay. Schools often apply, and pay, for the remark themselves if the mark is close to the borders. 8/9 marks is probably not going to result in an upgrade (although might do).

If he is doing A Levels which have nothing to do with Art, and he is unlikely to need to rely on his Art GCSE grade in the future, I would forget it.

While it is true anyone can pay to have an exam paper remarked, where the whole cohorts coursework was moderated down, all students would have to agree to a remark.

I'm not sure how the remark the exam though, isn't it just a painting?

As tictchy says it would need to be remoderated along with everything else that was included in that moderation. This is something that the school would only initiate if they are uncomfortable across the board, and many schools will then only do it if all parents consent to remoderation.

The school are unlikely to do this unless they feel very strongly about all the grades being well below expectations, as it is a lot of work, so if a couple got Bs rather than As, it is unlikely to be a big enough change to go through this. More of an issue if most children were moderated down significantly.

FYI in our area this happened with Edexcel art A level at lots of schools, but not AQA, and some schools here are therefore remoderating. I am less sure about impact of moderation at GCSE though.
