DD1, secondary, around 15mins walk.
DD2, primary, around 10mins walk (or 20mins if she's dawdling).

I am so glad we live somewhere with a short 'commute' for the children. When I see posters elsewhere saying their secondary children have a journey of an hour each way, I wonder how they fit in homework and down time.

15 minutes

Dd1 is 2.4 miles and dd2 is 0.6 miles.
Both walk but dd1 does sometimes catch the bus.

I like the fact that their friends are close to, so if they want to get together it is usually on walking distance.

About 15/20minutes depending on how quickly they walk.

We are lucky,DS walks to the bus stop which takes about 45 seconds and if I stand on the door step I can see him standing there. Then he gets the bus which takes 10mins straight into his secondry school car park.

Ds is starting secondary tomorrow and will have about 30 minutes walk, or could get the bus.

Primary is 10 minute walk.

15 minutes for ds2 and dd1 to tier junior school. 3 minutes for ds1 at secondary school which is on our street despite being in a small village. Very lucky I know - especially as it's a fab school.

Just over a mile. It takes him between 20 and 30 minutes depending how dawdly he is that day.

Secondary was 5 minutes walk to the bus stop, 6 minute bus ride into the school bus bay. Now he's in the 6th form he walks across the road to a neighbour who takes him along with her son.

Primary - five minute walk - if that.

Less than a minute. Bet we're still late though!

Secondary - 1.5 miles, about 30 min walk

Youngest started college this week but for DD2 it was a 30 minute walk in the morning (via a friends where she would be for 5-10 minutes) and I remember her telling me that if she was quick she could get home in 14 minutes. It's 2 different routes but each is exactly a mile smile.

A 15 min walk.

25 minute walk to secondary, it is 1.3 mile according to google maps and should take 28 minutes. It is also uphill on the way there so he does well. He is faster coming home.

DD1 - secondary - 10 min cycle.
DD2 - primary - used to be 15 min walk, but we've moved further away, so now a 15 min drive.

A 5 minute walk, or less. We live on the same street.

AuntieStella Thu 04-Sep-14 09:22:16

Our secondary is 3+miles away, so it has to be bus (5 mins to stop from home, 10 mins walk from stop to school).

Primary is about a mile and walkable.

5-10 minutes walk. My dc are lucky not to have to commute to school, and it was a significant reason for choosing this school.

Kim82 Thu 04-Sep-14 09:30:20

Ds aged 13 takes his bike to school so it takes 5 mins to get there (it would be a 10-15 minute walk).

Dds aged 7 and 10 walk to school and it takes 1 minute (if that) to get there - there are 2 houses between us and the school.

Theas18 Thu 04-Sep-14 09:32:43

30-45mins commute which includes walk-bus- walk or the quicker walk-train-bus- walk option!

Walking all the way maybe 90 mins.

kormasutra Sat 06-Sep-14 08:46:24

5 miles away so God knows how longsmile
2 buses each way. Around 45 minutes door to door.
Am considering moving near to ds new secondary, my hair has gone greyer grey since he started this week.

TheFirstOfHerName Sat 06-Sep-14 09:37:40

DS1 & DS2 (secondary): 35 minutes
DS3 & DD (primary): 10 minutes

My journey to school was over an hour each way. You get used to it, and it was worth it as it was the right school for me (I was gifted, precocious and a PITA).

MissMillament Sat 06-Sep-14 13:21:20

15 minute walk for mine.

TheGirlFromIpanema Sat 06-Sep-14 13:42:06

Just under 3 miles for High school here. I chose to send them to a school that far. There are 2 closer high schools where everyone walks to and from but we liked the school they are at smile

Both DC get the bus now unless they fancy a walk home with friends.

Primary was 1 mile, easy route and both did it by themselves from Yr 5 smile
