My daughter did not get in to oxford or Lse her top choices she got 3A and on B in Spanish. She lives modern history and politics with the aspiration to do a law conversation and become a barrister. Big dreams I know. I have tried to comfort her but she is so disappointed and considering a gap year to retake her Spanish. I have encouraged her to go through clearing and currently she can go to warwick, another London Uni such as kings, imperial but the course is not exactly what she wants. Her boyfriend is an Exeter and they have very sensibly agreed not to attend the same Uni, the course they have offered her is PPE and she likes modern history. Any suggestions.I think she should go to warwick since the course is what she wants. Anyone with ideas?

Which of them offers the course content that most appeals to her? That's what I would base it on
(Although as my nephew has just had terrible difficulty getting accommodation at his insurance choice, I might be tempted to factor in the ease of getting suitable accommodation if all other options are equal)

That's a good point, the course is perfect at warwick but she thinks its the middle of nowhere

Warwick has a strong reputation and is a large and lively campus. She ought to be guaranteed first year accommodation, something Kings might not offer. (Imperial I think do.) Absolutely no guarantees she would get either Oxford or LSE with a resit. Unless there is somewhere else she really wants to try for, Warwick sounds like her best option.
I am sorry about her disappointment.

I'm sorry it didn't work out for her. It must be hard as her mum to try and stay positive for her.

Resisting is very unlikely to do her any good for an Oxford or LSE re offer - they are not the kind of places that are interested in students who don't get their grades first time - harsh but true. And even if the Spanish went up to an A - she still wouldn't have an A . Her offers this year may have been all As, but as a candidate with A levels in hand that don't include an A versus a candidate that is predicted A * for next year, she won't compare well.

It's very unusual for with LSE or Oxford to specify a four A offer - is one of her subjects 'disallowed'? Meaning that she has AAB in the offer subjects?

It's also very late to be firming up on clearing too - has Warwick guaranteed on campus accommodation because that would make a big difference to her experience there...

Beck there is limited flexibility with AAB at Oxford and the colleges can allow some students in. Presumably ucas track said no go on results day and she's spoken to the college since? Have you had the paper re-marked? I'm surprised there's a four A offer too - almost all subjects are fine for History and Politics - what did she take? Anyhow, apologies, this isn't answering the question. if there's absolutely no scope left for a priority re-mark I would say Warwick for sure. My goddaughter missed her offer at Oxford and went to Warwick - it's all turned out well.

(those bits in bold in my previous post were meant to be s btw - so referring to having no A and candidates being predicted A*)

I hope your DD is not too dissapointed and has sorted something out. I think it's difficult for themuntil they know what they are doing. They are great results. Thanks

All my friends kids who go to Warwick love it. It's only a stones throw from Coventry with excellent buses. Does your DD drive? If so I think Warwick would be a good Uni to have a car (finances permitting).

Thank you everyone, one of her A,s is a PPQ which Lse won't take to regarded her as AAB she has phoned universities after results day which opened up some options. She has calmed down now and dismissed the resit idea. We have applied for accommodation and warwick, she drives so I am using that as a negative to studying in London. For me as a parent I feel she can do a postgraduate study in London if she still likes London. It's a very expensive city and course work is hard enough. We live in a fairly big city now so she has an idea of city life.

My DS has just finished his first year at Warwick and has had a fantastic time. I think that if your dd can get on campus accommodation then it's a great choice,
By the way, most students seem to live in Leamington for second year onwards, rather than Coventry.

"the course is perfect at warwick but she thinks its the middle of nowhere"

Thinks? Why doesn't she know? Go and visit now and do some research. I wouldn't recommend going anywhere if you haven't checked it out beforehand.
DD had a couple of places on her 'possibles' list that looked great on paper but she knew, immediately she set foot on the campus, were not for her.

Warwick is set in Coventry but is on the outskirts, near nice countryside. Coventry is a bit past its best (1960s motor trade boom town) but many students live in Leamington which is much more groovy: check it out.

oops, just noticed that why has already mentioned Leamington.Blush Do have a look, it's got a good atmosphere. Mix of regency splendour, yummy mummydom, artyness and student bars.

Leamington Spa "groovy"? Really? My DDs would not agree and neither would I. Very surprised that LSE was insurance here because the offer was obviously the same as Oxford. Very surprised that Imperial do Modern History. However, go for Warwick. Highly regarded and she is lucky to get in with AAB. Lots don't!

i thought the only undergrad humanities course Imperial offered was history of medicine? but i wonder if the OP was just talking more generally aobut accommodation in London....

Thank you, I was mainly talking about London alternatives to LSE her main interest is modern history and politics. We are going to warwick this week to have a loom but we don't want to miss it.
