Secondary Schools in Surrey

Help!! I am hoping someone can help clear up my confusion for me!!

I am looking at secondary schools (private) in Surrey but have 3 sons and so would ideally like them all to go to the same school to be given the same opportunity. Are there any schools which aren't selective or are less selective than the more competitive ones? If you get into a school such as Ewell Castle, do they still have to sit the 11+ when they get to it?

Thank you!!

Where in Surrey? You need to be more specific.

Why not open your options and consider all types of school?

I am not being deliberately provocative BTW. I am a governor at a secondary school and am interested in education. Private school is one option, but an excellent state school is another.

I agree Bunbaker that state schools can be amazing and my sons are currently at a brilliant state primary but the private schools generally have better sports, arts and drama facilities and I feel my eldest son in particular would benefit from the smaller class sizes. Also, we are moving into the area and I would rather make life slightly easier on the house search by not being restricted to the small catchments that the state schools have to ensure you are certain of securing a place.

AFAIK pretty much all of the Surrey schools are selective to a degree, and some are getting increasingly academic. So a school like Reeds used to be a pretty safe bet for a boy who loved sport and was middle of the class at his primary but now takes top set boys mainly.

Claremont is considered locally to be a very good school for less fiercely academic children. It certainly takes middle ability boys (and girls). It had a reputation for being caring and nurturing.

Just FYI it is very usual round this area for boys in the same family to all go to different schools. I don't know quite how the parents manage it logistically but there is such a brilliant choice of independent school in the area you mention that you may find different schools feel tailor made for your sons.

King Edwards Witley - boarding & day school so good facilities. Not as selective as most.

St Johns Leatherhead

Boxhill, Frensham Heights (arty, quite alternative)

St Johns is 13+ entry so you'd be looking at a prep school for year 7 & 8 taking Common Entrance . St Johns will also have pretested for 2016 entry already, as will others such as Epsom, RGS (Guildford) et al.
