We are looking for secondary schools in Reading for my son who has some medical issues and very mild learning and social difficulties. Any ideas?? He gets upset by things very easily and I just cannot quite imagine him being happy at any secondary school - but its gonna have to happen!! We're thinking about Langtree or Highdown or maybe Leighton Park,St Josephs College or Shiplake. Any other ideas or experiences at these schools, good or bad, gratefully received.

I have a few friends with children at Langtree - 2 were moved there after problems at other schools and they are both now flourishing. It has very good pastoral care.

A Mumsnetter here has a daughter at Leighton Park and is (was) very happy with it. Don't know about the others though. Probably not many boys at St Jo's as not long been a co-ed from a girls convent.

My son is about to join LP, so we clearly like it. Our second choice was St Josephs. The Head at St Josephs seems brilliant to me and the proportion of boys in the younger years is very high. The only reason we picked LP is that the non-catholic approach and the flexi boarding suits us better. I hated Shiplake when we visited it. Really not for us- too much rowing and not enough music
