It's not a Government Scheme as such. Family Learning Signature is a matrix for schools to understand how a family responds to learning. You have to respond to a series of questions about how your family learns by grading them as follows;

Green - yes that is definitely us
Yellow - that's like us sometimes
Red- we are definitely not like that

The school then can analyse the signatures and look for aspects of the family setting that they might be able to put in interventions to help with. An example might be - the signatures might show that a number of families are not confident with ICT so the school could offer some classes/events where children and their parents can learn together at school

Does that make sense?

The success of a learning signature evening has a lot to do with how honest the family is willing to be and how good the presenter is about putting everyone at their ease and giving examples of how to answer the questions as some of them are a bit hard to understand!!
