Sorry, I know the GCSEs came out a few days ago but we were on holiday and ds2 has only just got his results today. He took part of his ICT early (end of Yr 10) and the result is as follows: (I will write it all down as I am not sure which bits are relevant)

OCR CNAT/1&2 R001 ICT Understanding Computer Systems 60 *2

We think the test was out of 60 which would suggest he got full marks (entirely likely) but we don't understand the *2 bit.

Anyone?

60 is the max UMS available for the unit. The raw marks are also out of 60 though you might need to score less than 60/60 to get all the UMS available. The UMS map to actual grades of which 2 is the highest available - they go 2, d2, m2, p2, d1, m1, p1, u and I would guess d = distinction, m = merit, p= pass.

I got this information from the OCR grade boundaries doc

see page 71

I think he needs to be congratulated on getting the best mark available but can't pretend I understand it in full!

Mysteryfairy, you are a genius, just to have unravelled the information you have - thank you! Even with your post, I found the link hard to navigate but got there in the end. Talk about complicated! Anyway, thank you so much. Ds is a very clever boy, but not endowed with much common sense so he has not been able to help me understand his mark at all, but he did say it was entirely possible he had got full marks (I think because he has had full marks in mock tests.)

Anyway, thanks again. Smile
