Visiting Winchester Houses

After a less than successful open day at Winchester last June we have been told by Ds's headmaster to go and look again. So we are off to visit Du Boulays and Hawkins in a few weeks time on a Saturday. Can anyone advise where we could grab a quick but sustainable and pleasant bite to eat near the 2 houses ?

Lots of cafes around the cathedral all pleasant. There a hotel up the road cant think what is called I'll search it and see if I can find it! We too were underwhelmed by the open day. Do PM me if you want to know more.

The hotel is called Hotel Du-Vin & Bistro 12 Southgate St
Winchester very close to both Hawkins and DuBoulays. I've never eaten in there as we're always in hurry but I know other parents do.

Try the Wykeham Arms pub at the back of the college - great food!

Guinea is that the one on Kingsgate Street? We often walk past it and have wondered what the food like.

Its on the corner of Kingsgate St and Canon St, literally just behind the college. There are some other lovely pubs and eating places around the cathedral, but they are always v busy at lunch times - there is also a Jamie Oliver Union Jacks, but I WOULD NOT recommend it. Sorry Jamie!

The cathedral has great food and is only 5 mins from the college.
The Royal Oak does great fish finger sandwiches...in the High Street near Russell & Bromley. The Old Vine is good for food and in the cathedral square.
Lots of good places...Ginger Tea for Two is good for a cuppa and a cake.
