There is a 6th form scholarship scheme run by the Arkwright Scholarship Trust which gives a monetary sum to help with studies at 6th form ie pay for trips or equipment., plus lots of other benefits such as mentoring.

Any school can apply to be part of the scheme and the criteria for students are


Your school/college must be affiliated to the Arkwright Scholarships Trust (this affiliation can occur in parallel to a student application)

Applicants must be in year 11 (S4 in Scotland) and about to take their GCSEs, Scottish Standards or equivalent examinations

Applicants must be taking GCSE/Standard Grade Design and Technology, Technology Studies, Engineering or related subjects

Applicants should be planning to take A levels, Scottish Highers or equivalent examinations in subjects relevant to a higher apprenticeship or the study of engineering or a related area of design at university. Students are advised to refer to their preferred university for specific entry requirements

Applicants must make a commitment to maths at AS and preferably A2 (England, Wales & Northern Ireland); Higher or Intermediate 2, preferably Advanced Higher in S6 (Scotland)

Applicants must be actively considering a university degree or higher apprenticeship and career in engineering or a related area of design.

Applications need to be in by January 25th.
