How much homework in Y7 and Y9?

How long do your DCs spend doing homework every day? It seems to be very hit and miss with my two DCs, but easily less than an hour a day. Not sure if I should be more strict with them or trust what they are saying about lack of homework ...

I'd say an hour a day is about right. My daughter's general homework only takes about 3 hours a week, but projects are about 4 hours each and she will get 4/5 per half term. She's in Year 7.

Yr 7 dd here, seems to be between 30 and 60 mins an evening. Nearer 30 mins most evenings.

DD isn't really doing much at all during the week. She seems to be doing the majority of it at the weekend. She did about 3 hours today and a bit yesterday as well. She is Y7.

So far she hasn't been in trouble for lack of homework or poor quality so I'm leaving it up to her.

My y7 is at an Ofsted outstanding school and gets less than 30 minutes a night. Another local Ofsted outstanding school sets similar.

My DSs have both left school now but I remember being very concerned about the lack of homework they seemed to have compared with when I was at school.

I even raised the issue at many parents meetings (how popular was I with the DC? Grin)

I was convinced the DC were trying to pull the wool over my eyes.

However, they both went on to do extremely well in their exams so I guess they just don't get as much homework nowadays.

I can check up on my DD's set homework on the virtual network. Can log on any time and can see exactly what she has and hasn't done. I can also check up on her behaviour report. Grin

yr8 DS gets 10-20 mins/night. He is not one to spend extra time on it, though.
