what is expected at your school? Aibu to think that 1.5 hours a day is quite a lot at this age?

TheFallenMadonna Mon 17-Sep-12 22:27:54

45 mins for DS.

kilmuir Mon 17-Sep-12 22:28:28

Can't remember exactly, probably about an hour to begin with. Havea DC in year 9, no homework yet!

Too much; about 9 hours per week, then in Year 8 hardly any at all.

Any more?

Sorry can't recall the actual set amount. Do remember vividly that the girls school gave them huge amounts of homework initially then eased off after a couple of months though.

1.5 hours seems a lot! Dd hasn't been doing homework every night but did two chunks at the weekend and some bits through the week - I haven't timed, but I think last night she spend about 40 minutes on Maths and German.

Supposed to be an hour a day in our school. Sometimes it is and sometimes it ain't.

I have two in year 7 and it has been quite a lot but not as much as that. They spent about 2 hours at the weekend on various bits, maths, art, covering books. During the week prob half an hour or so most nights, not all.

Home works are meant to be 20-30 minutes each. There's a pile up one day when he gets set four of them, but most have to be done for the following lesson, not the next day, so it evens up a bit. They've not taken the full time so far (except one maths one) so it's been quite an easy ride. Wonder how long that will last.

suppose to be 1 hour a night.....but ds faffs about quite a bit "needing breaks !" so starts at ..say 5.30 and finishes 7.30 ish ..only thing neede for next day so far is French...memorising new vocab..that he shouted out to me while having a bath !!!...numbers and alphabet

Three lots of 25 mins so 1 hour and 15 mins total per night. So far, being done in less than the allocated time but there has been a lot of covering/decorating books so will see once the more academic homework kicks in.

Not very much. DS has been doing the odd little bit here and there, and some at lunchtime at school in the library. I'm expecting it to start to trickle in.

Ladymuck Tue 18-Sep-12 10:07:35

60-70 mins a night, with one night a week clear from homework (which is when sports fixtures happen).

DogsCock Tue 18-Sep-12 11:54:11

3 pieces of 30 mins each here.

OhYouBadBadKitten Tue 18-Sep-12 13:30:54

dd started off as 1.5hours a day but it slowed down to a more realistic amount with the odd shocker of a task. So far she only seems to have had 1/2 hour to 1 hour in Year 8.

2 bits of homework 3 days a week; 3 bits the other 2. Each supposed to take 30-40 mins. Two homeworks are always learning - languages. Maths is set once a week to cover both the week's homeworks.

SomePeopleSayImBonkers Tue 18-Sep-12 15:43:43

DS recently started Y7. School says should be 1 hour a night. So far he's only been given 3 lots of homework, with each taking about 30 mins....I guess they are breaking them in gently! Oh, they did say that they were only going to set homework in English and maths until half term.

Knowsabitabouteducation Tue 18-Sep-12 20:37:26

About 1 - 1.5 hours per night.

hoodoo12345 Fri 21-Sep-12 11:53:53

30 mins to a hour every night.

pointythings Fri 21-Sep-12 19:03:57

Nothing like this much so far, thank goodness! Not every night, and only about 45 mins worth for each day of the weekend. DD1 also has a big task, with a deadline of 2 weeks - I think this is good, teaches her to plan and prioritise.

On the whole I think homework is overrated.

microcosmia Mon 01-Oct-12 01:29:53

It varies but usually 1-1.5 hours but we've gotten off quite lightly at weekends so far DS usually finishes homework on Fri eve and that's it til Monday. No doubt that will all change after mid-term if not before.

MrsShrek3 Mon 01-Oct-12 01:33:50

Ds has only had three pieces so far and a big family tree making piece for history due in at half term.

bubby64 Mon 01-Oct-12 13:16:37

Dependant on which rota week it is (on a 2 week rotating schedual) 1-2 times a week 2 bits, 1-2 times=3 bits, 1-2 times=1bit, each time 30 minute a piece, so on 3 days a fornight they get the maximum 1hr30mins worth, the rest of the time 30mins-1hr a night, with one night a fortnight none at all (yellow thursdays, yahoo!)

Rumour that local High School sets no more than 20min/night.
