Football boots for the Wide of Foot

DS will have PE twice a fortnight at school & for this he needs trainers AND football boots (sigh). He has wide feet (size 5-ish E-G width) with high insteps so buying online would be risky.

I read Adidas & Nike are brands that fit wide -- but they are expensive & this is for a shoe he will use 1 hour/fortnight term time only. I would buy 2nd hand, but do you suppose ALL Adidas & Nikes are wide?

Any other brands I could try, presuming I must bite the bullet & go shopping until we find something not too dear to buy new? Thanks in advance.

Have you Sports Direct. All of the DT's trainers come from there. One has a slightly narrow foot and the other at age 12 has a size 12 wide foot but has managed to find something to fit without costing an arm and a leg.

My DS has an H fitting and a very high instep football boots are a nightmare we usually go to a shop and try on 50 pairs with the socks and shin pads on as well we go up at least 1 1/5 sizes! We generally go to a shop with loads of choices it's best to go when no one else is there; Monday morning is good the staff in places like JB sports are pretty moronic and don't always get it you just need loads of patience!
For trainers Asics are the best but really expensive you get ones for high in steps can't remember what they're called. My DS's feet don't grow he's 13 and been the same tiny size for 3 yrs the last pair cost £90 and lasted three years and that's doing games 4-5 times a week wearing them at other times as well better value long run than Clarks shoes which IME only last 6 months. Again we get one size larger.

Sports direct. Buy the cheapest that fit. THey will be trashed (I assume happy gardeners child actually cleans his? My DS just lets them moulder!) .

DT with the wide foot tends to bet Adidas trainers as they are a wider shape. Only problem is that they tend to have a mesh top rather than closed leather. His current football boots are Umbro from Sports Direct. Sometimes we've had to visit more than once before finding something that fits. Their stock constantly changes so something eventually turns up.

Ah... I thought Sports Direct was only online, didn't realise there were outlets. Miraculously they even have a real live shop near me. Cheers.

Dd was supposed to have a pair of football boots for pe at the start of year 7. She has got a size 7 foot with a width wider than H at Clarks (yes a nightmare) and a high instep. We tried everywhere for a pair of boots. All the sports shops said that there is no fitting, which i didn't expect there to be, so she would need probably a mans size 9 just to get her foot into the boot! No thanks. I checked with the school and said she would not be having boots and was told they were not needed as long as she had trainers. So she had two pairs of trainers - one for inside and one for outside. She has never even played football or rugby once since she started high school and she will be entering year 9 in September!!

We too go for Sports Direct on a quiet weekday with added valium for me because I hate it and try on lots until we find something wide enough (DS also H fitting, size 5ish). DS has to have 2 pairs of trainers and football/rugby boots, so cheap is good - he has yet to destroy any before he outgrows them, although he was found to be curling his toes up inside way-too-small school shoes whilst protesting that they were "fine" so I am now paranoid and triple check all fitting rather than taking his word for anything.

DS has quite wide feet, but we just order online from good old Sports Direct and they always seem fine. The stores often don't have as full a range as online. DS has only had Nike's for the last couple of years and I personally prefer Nike trainers as they always seem wider and more comfortable on my feet

My 13 yo DS has wide feet, the only footie boots that have ever fitted properly are addidas predators. They are not cheap though.....

The ones that lasted three years were outside trainers therefore used for running athletics etc, he has inside ones as well,but never worn in mud my DS wears football boots. DS 1 also has Asics trainers which are his only outdoor shoes after school shoes again 2 years old and still perfectly wearable just grown out of again not worn in heavy mud, DS2 is meticulous with his shoes hence three years of heavy wear but DS1 isn't. I've also got H fitting high arched feet and can only wear Asics trainers mine are 18 months old and worn a lot and still look although dont smell as good as the day I bought them for £100. It is a huge amount of money but from past experiences of cheaper trainers like Clarkes in the long run more comfortable and better value for money.
Once you know what size you want shop around and buy on line you can get real bargains especially if your not fussy about the colour.

I would try sports direct, go very early in the morning as the service is poor and they get very busy!
A member of staff at Adidas once told me that Nike are wider fitting than Adidas........

not all styles in the brand name will be the same though - ds3 has to try on zillions to get something that fits. he looks for a style online at sports direct, but we go to the much quieter calmer Intersport in town to try it on and buy. Usually have to pay a bit more but sports direct is in the next town and its is so huge and busy and very very understaffed its worth staying local.

Update: Went to Sports Direct today and found...
Not.A.Single.Shoe.Would.Do.
All but of about 2 zillion football stud shoes were lace ups, just one velcro pair which were too small for DS.
Looking online but not much hope of finding anything velcro with actual studs.

DS absolutely refuses to learn to tie laces, sigh. This goes back to when he was bullied & he has no confidence about tying laces, I can't see I can change him.

Suspect DS will just have one pair of trainers for reg. PE or footie. Not a good start to new school. Nuts.

Sorry for reanimating a dead thread - BUT why don't you buy boots which fit his foot (lace-ups) and also buy elastic triathlon laces (on-line)? Once they are fitted and laced, he'll never need to do them up himself. (I use for dyspraxic ASD son who can't do laces)

Also with elastic laces, the boots will have a bit more give in them.

My second son had a problem with laces. We asked the school to buddy him for one rugby lesson (get a friend to tie his laces). One lesson in and he managed to tie them himself. Dh also spent an hour focusing on lace tying when Ds2 was about to go to secondary for his school shoes (they are not allowed velcro) It worked! So sometimes, a year older and they can manage after all.

Ds1 has very wide feet and high instep and he wears Puma rugby boots, a size bigger than his normal shoes. That seems fine. From Sports Direct - we love them.

If you want wide sports shoes then you arn't going to get them in the UK.
Best place to buy size E, 2E, 3E, 4E is South Korea and Japan. There is a smaller range in the US but they go up to 6E.
What ever anyone in a UK high street store ever says to you they will only ever stock width C or D which are basically worthless, they will try and tell you they are wide but invariably its a D rather than a real E.
