Hi there

I'm new, but need some advice so going to jump right in. My DS has been called for interview with the head on 3rd February. Did anyone else apply and have they heard anything? The school website states there's an individual as well as group interview but the lady who called said it's just 20mins with the head, so I am confused.

Does anyone know what to expect or have any hints on how to prepare please? Oh, we applied for bursary; not sure if this makes any difference.

thanks and good luck to everyone

What year entry is he going for 10+, 11+ or 13+ ?

Mummyinthedark Fri 03-Feb-12 16:38:55

Congrats Mamakiso

We have been called for interview too - 10+ entry. I think this one is one on one, will be checking though. Maybe it's group - seeing all of them one on one would be a huge drain on time and resource.

How did the interview go Mamakiso?

Sorry for the delay. Its 11+. He came out smiling so it must have been ok. TBH, that was the last interview and I didn't want to stress anymore so didn't drill him, lol. He was asked maths questions and asked to read a passage and answer questions. He asked them 2 questions of his own and it was all over in 20mins. He was interviewed by the Head and someone else. All fingers crossed, we hear on 23/24th February.

Good luck to all our children!

I'm hoping it's not to late to join but mamakiso, could you tell me if DS was in for a scholarship interview? My DS has a 10+ interview this friday and we are assuming it's not a scholarship interview, as they haven't mentioned anything about scholarships.

mamakiso Tue 07-Feb-12 21:44:08

It was for a bursary not scholarship. The interviews in Friday and Monday are general interviews I believe but will also be used as a basis for awarding scholarships if the child meets the criteria

splodge2001 Wed 08-Feb-12 12:55:10

Oh that's interesting, I thought that they told you whether or not your son would be up for a scholarship beforehand.

mamakiso Thu 09-Feb-12 19:07:54

splodge2001 - TBH, I'm not sure because we applied for a bursary - you may be right about the scholarships

mamakiso Thu 09-Feb-12 19:09:04

good luck to your ds splodge2001

Mummyinthedark Wed 15-Feb-12 20:08:30

splodge, mamakiso, how did your boys do?
We had an offer today and hope others had good news too.

Mummyinthedark Wed 15-Feb-12 20:09:41

sorry, just read you don't hear until 23/24, didn't read properly. fingers crossed.

mamakiso Wed 15-Feb-12 20:43:00

mummyinthedark - is your offer for a full fee paying place or a bursary/scholarship

mamakiso Wed 15-Feb-12 20:45:19

congrats to your DD. well done

mamakiso Wed 15-Feb-12 20:50:11

Mummyinthedark; just realised its 10+ not 11+. Its seems like we're waiting forever!!

Mummyinthedark Thu 16-Feb-12 13:29:31

Sorry to leave it hanging, just popped back on.

Our DS had to do 10 + because he has been offered a place in one of the choirs the school partners with. He will be a choral scholar, and I think they all/most of them, come in to year 6.

I am ridiculously proud.

nlondondad Thu 16-Feb-12 16:36:59

City, for historical reasons, and no doubt the relationship with choirs, has a form called "Old Grammer" which is the same as year 6 in a primary school.

Its not that big and they have special pastoral arrangements for it.

Congratulations on getting in.

mamakiso Fri 17-Feb-12 15:51:24

We heard from City - 100% bursary but on a waitlist. Praying even harder now because DS loves the school.

Mummyinthedark Fri 17-Feb-12 16:41:26

Wow, full bursary - that would, be amazing. Your DS has done brilliantly to get this offer, they had more boys in the admissions process here that ever before (true of other independent schools too, not just CLSB)

Fingers crossed for you.

mamakiso Fri 17-Feb-12 16:52:12

Thanks, everything is crossed - fingers, toes!

splodge2001 Thu 23-Feb-12 23:14:59

Hi didn't realise this thread was still going - DS got in at 10+ no bells attached, did very well in the exam and we've decided to accept rather than chancing it next year. DS very excited.

mamakiso Thu 23-Feb-12 23:25:36

congrats splodge

splodge2001 Fri 24-Feb-12 10:14:02

I guess you hear today makamiso -good luck! I'm going to hand deliver the form today after a week of deliberation. We've been agonising over whether to take the place now or wait for next year to see if we could get a scholarship (DS had no tutoring this time) Anyway - we decided that a bird in the hand was worth two in the bush!

mamakiso Fri 24-Feb-12 16:49:09

splodge we actually heard 2 weeks ago, 100% bursary but on the wait list

mamakiso Thu 08-Mar-12 10:52:53

We got in yeah!!
