Scottish Schools - Placing request for Secondary school, when is the best time to do it?

My DD is currently in P7 but I don't want her to go to the secondary school that her primary is the feeder for.

I know I will have to put in a placing request, I have had a bit of a look round my local council website, but it seems to deal more with placing requests for Primary school. I have also emailed the school I hope to send her to, but I haven't as yet heard anything back.

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of this? If it is a case of the sooner the better or if there was a certain time it had to be done by/between?

There's a set time. I think it's just before Christmas when councils send out letters telling you there is a place for your child in the catchment high school and enclsoing forms and details of how to request another school, if that's what you wan t to do.

Your school choice is then confirmed round about Easter, just after i think.

We made a succesful placing request for secondary school. The info should be on your local council's web-site. Ours says "Placing requests must be made by 15 March. You will be given a decision by 30th April".
From memory we made our request in about February.

Thanks very much, both of you, so no real hurry then. I couldn't see anything on the council website, maybe because it is too soon? I will keep checking, thanks again.

I was a bit impatient when I was in your situation but got my early application sent back to be resubmitted in January. I was requesting an out of coounty placement though, not just a different school in the same authority. Bit stressful waiting but not as bad as the English system!

I think it's too soon. Schools don't start sorting it out till December/January.

Great, thanks for the advice, no point in doing it too early and having it sent back.

The head teacher went round the class today taking notes of which high school everyone intended to go to, so I think there may be a parents info evening soon, which might give more info too.

You should be posted all relevant info when the time comes, without you having to remember to do something on a specific date. Which is v helpful.
