Secondar schools in Glos (Cheltenham, Gloucester, Stroud areas)

Can anyone talk to me about the secondary schools (Comps and Grammars) in Cheltenham/Glos/Stroud? My DD is in Y5 just now, but DP and I are thinking of moving house. I want to choose my area carefully!

Happy to be PM-ed if preferred.

Hello thelightsareon

We live in Stroud and have 3 DSs.
Eldest 2 are both at Marling boys grammar, so not much use for your DD, but Stroud High is physically right next door to the boys grammar and is starting to share more and more buildings. Doubt that the schools will ever actually merge, but there is a fair bit of linking up both formally and, now that the old head has gone, informally during breaks.

The Stroud grammars are not super-selective - for that you would have to travel to Pates in Cheltenham.

The comprehensives in Stroud are not too bad, but there some that are better than others. DS3 is in year 7 at Thomas Keble and has settled in very well. The school generally has an excellent reputation these days and is always oversubscribed. I don't have any personal experience of the other comps, but Archway (the main school for most of Stroud) seems to have a reasonable reputation.

Should also add that Stroud is a lovely place to live.

Am happy to answer any specific questions you may if you want to PM me.

Would also suggest posting on the Cheltenham and Gloucester boards as you don't seem to have had much response here.
