Moving from England to Perth

We are thinking about relocating from down south to Perth Scotland to be near my family who live in Arbroath.
We want to be in the City rather than in the outskirts as we like to go for a couple of beers and need places to walk the dog.
Can anybody give me an idea of what it’s like to live here.
Also has anybody relocated from south to North and how did you find the change in temperature.
We’re you made to feel welcome as a southerner.
Just a few things in my mind before deciding if we should move.

Perth is a lovely small city, great location for accessing most of Scotland. Near the skiing. I think it has quite a lot of incomers.

I'm in Edinburgh but can answers the temperature question. I'm Scottish but lived in south of England for 10 years. Winters will have more snow, spring and autumn fairly similar but summer is definitely a few degrees cooler. Whereas in SE I could go out for day in t shirt here I always have a cardigan with me. First summer I was back I went to BBQ late afternoon in shorts and T-shirt and was freezing by 6pm!
Hopefully someone local to Perth will be along soon.

You just adapt to the weather and if you get a dry, warm day it’s a bonus.

Perth is ok. High Street can be busy but not sure what will open again after Covid. Debenhams will be gone. Plenty bars and restaurants. Motorway access is good. So is the rail network. It’s an ok base. About an hour to Arbroath. I don’t live in Perth. I’m in Perthshire.

I would prefer Dundee to Perth, the West End or Broughty Ferry. It's handier for Arbroath and I just prefer the feel. It's down to where you feel comfortable though and where you need to be for work.

Beautiful part of the country. I lived 'south' for several years and then brought my English dh here. He has been accepted with no problem. The Scots are generally a friendly and welcoming bunch. I can't say the same for the people I lived near and worked with when 'south's. Yes it is colder in the summer but we do cope better with thre cold winters. To be honest as a fair skinned scot I didn't cope very well with the hot summers, I much prefer it here.
