Glasgow parents- will the schools be closed October 23/24th?

Is anyone else making alternative arrangements? I know the point of the strike is to cause uncertainty but I am running out of options for childcare!

We're in East Dunbartonshire and lost four days at the end of last term to strikes. Teachers had to stay away too as the Council said they weren't allowed to be in school without jannies and cleaners. Council handled it spectacularly badly - we weren't told until 2.45pm on the Wednesday that the school would be shut the following day. Hopefully Glasgow will be more on the ball.

So yeah, take the strike seriously. They've walked out in other areas and are obviously prepared to follow through on the threat.

When we were on strike here there were a lot of companies stepping in with options - Goals on Great Western Road was running football camps, the tennis club was offering a day of games and coaching for £20 and so on. And a lot of "you have mine thursday friday and i'll have yours next week" type arrangements. I'd start planning for the worst, hoping for the best.

Haven't heard anything about it yet from our school, not much disruption for us as my 2 that are still at school are in S4 and S5.

For S4 and S5 it's worse though - schools closed in the lead up to exams is never good.

Thanks. I wonder if the council can make an earlier decision? Glasgow were the last to close during the snow, for what it's worth.

The texts have come, more or less confirming ? Such a pain, as kids are only back the Monday , then off tue/ wed.
dd is gutted as their class trip has been cancelled on the wed

We've had a text (Glasgow) to say that the school will definitely be open on those days, despite what we might have heard. Expected nothing less, really!

Have you really? We had letters yesterday and they said completely closed I can’t see how they can function without admin and cleaning staff.

@GreyBlushNavy . They are definetly closed, teachers are in, but obviously due to health and safety can't have children in.

It may well depend on whether it is a PFI or PPP school. The janitors at ds' old school, for example, are employed by Amey, not the council. So they won't be on strike.

Secondaries are open and primaries are closed.

It seems almost guaranteed to go ahead. I've wangled working from home one day and my sister is doing the other. Hoping it's not a prolonged series of strikes.

That would explain why we are open, as my dc are secondary age. They are in a 3-18 school and share janny, office staff and cleaners with the primary dept, so no idea how that will work?

I don't fancy using the toilets by the second afternoon anyway. Eeek.
