Thinking of booking a couple of nights away in a few weeks time (before Christmas) and trying to find a hotel. It needs to be in or near Inverness (up to about half an hour away would be ideal). Two adults, no children so just need a double room.
Ideal requirements: nice grounds, good breakfast, pool/sauna/steam room. And, this is the kicker, we need to be able to get to it by train/bus/on foot.
Does such a place exist?!
I did wonder about the MacDonald hotel in Aviemore too but not sure what that's like these days. I'd welcome suggestions!

Best Western Inverness Palace Hotel & Spa

Central, easy to find. I've only been there once but if I'm ever forced to go to Inverness again I'd stay.

Jury's Inn is fairly central, nice pool spa area. Quite good deals on booking.com etc. Last time I was in Inverness I was impressed by the range of restaurants so maybe would only book B and B.

I was at the Aviemore place about 5/6 years ago and it was nice then.

Kingsmills in Inverness is lovely and ticks all your boxes - it has a fab spa if you're that way inclined too. It's about a 15 minute walk from the centre but taxis are cheap and buses pass that way too.

Also Golf View in Nairn is nice! But I'd say Inverness has more to offer for a weekend away.

Macdonald at Aviemore - rooms are nice but the pool doubles as the town’s municipal pool so it’s not a spa-like experience at all. But just across road from train station.

view in Nairn rooms from £54 on booking sites. It's a bit of a bus ride from Inverness but right on the sea front for a quiet brisk stroll with a nice small leisure area pool/ hot tub from memory. It's been quite a few years since I stayed but was really nicely located for a get away from it all break.

Rocpool Reserve Hotel in Inverness is lovely (and pricey, but they do some good deals if you find one). Best Western is nice too.
