Still massive queues on the Fife side - just had to cancel a long awaited lunch at Orocco Pier in S Queensferry and still have to get over there and back tonight to get DD from airport.

Why is it so busy? Is everyone just wanting a go of driving over it?

What a shame for you. I couldn't understand why but BBC website said there would be a lot of "tourist" visits across on the first day. Hopefully it'll have calmed down or is it worth spending more road miles going across the Kincardine Bridge?

If you do go across let us know what it's like. I also didn't realise that it would be the main bridge and the FRB would now be only for buses, cyclists and pedestrians. The wind barrier looks like a good idea but from the picture I saw does that mean you have no view when crossing? Seems disappointing as that's the best bit when crossing.

As Nicola Sturgeon said, it's going to be there for 150 years, there's really no rush to be on it today!!😂
Did have a giggle at the lorry breaking down on it this morning. Sure that will have contributed to the queues this morning! So glad I'm not a commuter 😁

Avoid. AVOID. AVOID.

Traffic in SQ pretty much at a standstill and has been since this afternoon. Traffic crazy in all nearby villages - Newton, Kirkliston.

Madness!

I was going to go about half eight this evening but think I'll give it a miss!

They should have allowed traffic over both bridges for a few days. That way people who just needed to cross could do so on the old bridge and those who wanted to cross the new bridge on opening day could so so without impacting others. Badly thought out imo

It was chaos. For goodness sake it's just a road. What does it matter if you drive over it today or next week

Avoid it like the plague. Just back from the airport - took me over an hour and a half and it should take 20 mins. The 40mph limit is causing chaos and totally unnecessary. What a disappointment after all the hype. It may be beautiful, it may be a miracle of engineering but as a conduit to fast flowing traffic it's as much use as a chocolate teapot!

Phew thought it was just me that was seriously underwhelmed by the whole thing.

We're just back from a jaunt over and back to Fife. Its still busy but DH and I were laughing at the two youngest dc in the back of the car "recording it to show their grandchildren" 😂😂

I think I'll miss the "dunk dunk dunk" crossing over the old bridge!

@lordpercy can you see over the side over the wind barriers, otherwise there's not much to show the grandchildren!!!

What? No dunk, dunk, dunk?

Well obviously that does make sense when I think it through, but I have to admit I was expecting the familiar sound effects.

I don't think it's just the sightseers. Friends who crossed today said the roads leading up to it have changed so that there is only one lane for a while then joining another lane of traffic from west Lothian - v v slow moving and that's a road problem not a bridge one.

It makes me glad I'm not back at work yet. I work near the Crossing.

Edinburgh airport from North is easy. Pretty much the same as before and well signed.

Should have been opened on a weekend - that way would have been less traffic as commuters not adding to it.
I knew it would be busy so left Edinburgh early but still ended up late for work.

Think the people who were there just for the drive were being pretty selfish tbh - especially those in rush hour!

oh yikes, we are tootling down next week, have recently been up and down loads what with one thing and another (airport runs...yes of course your father said we'd pick you up!!)

That one lane thing sounds utterly preposterous...and the 40mph limit! If that's going to be the case I hope they have speed cameras up, they would make their money back by christmas!

Groovee · 31/08/2017 09:05

It's been a 40mph on the FRB for months since doing the crossing. I hate crossing with the bump bump every few seconds and just want to get over for ages.

Normally I drive up to the echline round about, but I haven't figured out how I get to where I am going with the new roads as local groups are saying it's closed.

Report
FairfaxAikman · 31/08/2017 09:39

What direction are you coming from Groovee?

Northbound might seem complicated, but you just drive as if you were going to Echline and then the road curves away to the left.
