Does anyone live in Helensburgh? DH and I currently live in central Glasgow but with DC due in Feb we’re looking, long term, at maybe moving out somewhere we can afford a bit more space. Helensburgh looks lovely but I don’t know anyone who lives there and can talk about schools, neighbourhoods etc.

Any advice?

Family would be me, DH, 2 kids and with a budget of about £400k for a house.

I'm from Helensburgh. It is a nice town and with £400k you'd have a decent choice of housing. i really like how easy it is to get outdoors- I'm on top of Ben bouie looking over Loch Lomond less than an hour after closing my front door... There's not lots of "places" for kids - soft play, etc but there's mountains of activities for all age groups in terms of creative stuff, sport, outdoor activities/volunteering. theres always new people in the town cause of the navy connection so it's not clique-y.

In your situation I'd be looking at Bearsden/Milngavie or in the opposite direction, Giffnock/Newton Mearns. Schools are excellent, lots going on for kids and you're still within easy reach of the city for work or for nights out and shopping.

What are house prices like comparatively? We just kinda got the impression we'd be able to afford more by going further out?

Shall look at rightmove though!

I'm out of touch with how much over you're supposed to offer with the "offers over" system at the mo but this house is close to where my sister lives, fantastic area, catchment for Bearsden Academy and £350k. Although the lime green walls aren't to my taste, it's needing very little immediate work.

Bridge of Weir and Houston are both nice places with excellent schools.
