If I wanted to get away for a bit, somewhere remote where could I go?

I'm in Glasgow, can drive and would be happy to get the train anywhere or drive for up to a couple of hours from Glasgow.

If I wanted to just escape everything for a day or two, somewhere quiet, go for a good and long walk for some thinking time, maybe a little quiet B&B if I wanted a bit more than just one day.

I'm relatively fit, but not an experienced hill-walker so a munro probably wouldn't be sensible to do alone I suppose. Although otherwise that might be ideal.

Can anyone think of anywhere that I could go? Somewhere I can be safe but alone. Any ideas?

I don't know the west that well, but I did go to Arran once which was lovely, and I'm sure you should be able to get a B&B somewhere. It's got nice walks, or you can drive around the island fairly easily and find a quiet place to yourself.
There are maybe other islands out that way that would work easily well.

Alternatively, Northumberland is stunning.....lots of gorgeous beaches where you can get some time to yourself. Reckon it would be a couple of hours on a train, or even driving. Look at places such as Alnmouth, Bamburgh, Seahouses for inspiration.

Hope you find somewhere nice and suits your needs.

www.summerisleshotel.com/ - in Achiltibuie

The scenery is amazing, the people are lovely but its also very quiet. There's a small café, a pub and a restaurant all dotted about. Theres a tiny craft shop and a pottery shop.

Lots of walking, wildlife etc etc

Oh sorry just saw the couple of hours bit. It's about 5 hours! But still... go!

Within a couple of hours drive from Glasgow, I'd head for some place like Pitlochry, Callander or Aberfeldy. Lots of wee b&bs, plently local (undemanding) walking, solitude available. Weather not guaranteed, but you'll know that already. :)

Edzell or Fettercairn. I don't know them but I drove through them yesterday. They seemed pretty remote but only 40 minutes from Dundee.

I always like being by the sea/water when I want to chill and de-stress. Arran is a good call - very safe and easy to get around or head across to Fife somewhere or if water isn't that important somewhere like Innerleithen in the borders, bustling wee village but lovely walks in the hills - no Munros :)

Balquhidder? Either in the village or Mhor84? Killin or Glen Orchy? Dunkeld?

Great ideas, thanks everyone Flowers Will get googling them.

Arran was my first thought actually, thought I'd climb Goatfell... Then read the advice that it's a 6.5 hour climb with just rocks towards the top so probably not my best idea to have that be my first hill-walk, alone! Blush

Yes water is always nice for peaceful thinking time. Whisky I loved the scenery in your link then saw the distance! I will go at some point!

Thanks everyone!

Balmaha, you could climb Ben Lomond, it's a pretty easy path?

Or head up northwards, maybe Glencoe?

A bit closer to the west you could go up towards Loch Katrine- lovely drives and do something like ben A'an - sign posted footpath all the way and unlikely to be the only person doing it all day (safety aspect) and then swing by Callander way and walk up to bracklinn falls. I guess it depends which day you as to whether it will be quiet or not, Ben Lomond would be lovely but on a nice weekend day it'll be like sauchiehall street. Mid week not so much.

Train to Tarbet or drive, then walk/Drive to Arrochar and can do a walk up the Cobbler. Or drive up to Tighnabruich, there are some lovely beaches and forest or coastal walks. Nice marina round at Portavadie too.

I'd second Arran (I live there)! Beautiful scenery, walks, lovely restaurants and great food.

If your looking for really remote you could always go to the Holy Isle just off of Arran.
