Glasgow school Janitor's strike

Anyone affected by this? I know breakfast clubs have been closed which must be disruptive to parents that rely on them.

As far as I can gather they are protesting against having to clean up sick, pick up litter and lift heavy things (but I admit this might be a 'tabloid' version of some their very genuine grievances) Bar one janitor who came and covered when one of our regulars were sick, the Janitors I've dealt with have been quite belligerent and grumpy looking men who look like they hate children! I might, of course, look the same if I did that job and I know they're probably paid peanuts.

Anyone else know more about this?

Ds is currently on study leave as he's doing his Nat 5s, so we've not been impacted at all.

To be fair no-one should be needing to pick up litter as parents should be teaching their children not to drop it in the first place.

It used to really annoy me when DS and his class had to spend playtimes picking up litter - he hasn't dropped litter in his life - his manky pockets are a testament to that!

Sick? well, that needs to be done and it seems a janitor-y thing to be doing.

Lifting heavy things? It depends on what things and whether they are suitable to be lifted by one person and whether they have had appropriate training in manual handling and have conducted the proper assessments before hand.

Obviously isn't affecting our school much as this is the first I've heard about it!!

Yes it's affecting our school badly . There's no breakfast club at all . And the after school clubs kids have to catch the bus to another local school where the Janitor is a member of another Union.

Nightmare for working parens who reply on these clubs
