Can anybody please give me feedback on these schools. We will be moving to the area and I have no idea about any of them. I can't find a 'schools league table' for Scotland and anyway I'd much rather have personal feedback than relying on a table.

There are not a lot of official lists available for Scottish school - this is the latest one I have been able to find that covers all school and not just the top 10/20 or 50. It's from 2012 so not that long back.

Academically Elgin Academy is the best with Lossiemouth not far behind - it does that with a slightly higher "Free School meals" percentage which (although completely politically incorrect) means it may be punching above its weight better. Elgin High has only very slightly higher FSM percentage but it's exam passes are a fair way lower.

Not that exam passes are everything in terms of educational success though.

Just manipulated the table a bit and Elgin High is the worst performing of the Moray schools - the other two are straddling the Moray average.

My council and school websites publish the latest school inspector reports which may be of more use than the league tables which are very crude.

As in Scotland almost all pupils go to the local school demographics of where you intend to live also give an insight. (FSM are only one indicator). My old school used to be consistently top 10 in the country and is now in the bottom third. No coincidence that the catchment area has changed. If there is a private school in the vicinity it will distort intakes.

Especially in the Highlands the size of the school will impact on opportunities and performance.

Just done some digging out of curiosity. The reason tables are out of date and hard to find is that the Scottish Government has changed the measurement criteria. You can now look at performance relative to social demographics for state schools in quite a bit more detail.
The parentzone section of educationscotland website has all the data for all Scottish schools pulled together. It also includes links to inspection reports and school websites. Look under "My School".

Thank you. I'll have a look at that website.

Avoid Elgin High - nobody local thinks highly of it. Elgin Academy has a good reputation. Don't know anything about Lossie High.

Hey if all else fails, just send the kids to Gordonstoun grin
(although that is actually not a very academic school, lots of focus on extracurricular stuff)
