Help me chose where to live! Commutable to Glasgow

We are so stuck and looking for reccomendations. Neither of is know the area (apart from Glasgow) and have no family connections so can go anywhere.

Requirements are:

Commutable to Glasgow with 45 mins max

Good schools

Would like a sense of community and ability to make friends. Niether of us have many friends here so important.

Have a budget of up to £220 so no where too extravagant.

A bit of a village feel, although doesn't need to be an actual village if you know what I mean.

To give an idea we really like Bridge of Weir but nothing is coming up in our price range. We are bursting out of our flat so needing to move asap.

Thank you!

Thanks both. Bishopbriggs is out unfortunately as XH now lives there. Really don't want to bump into him.

Will check out Bothwell.

Uddingston - lovely main street with any shop you care to mention including an unfeasibly large number of hair dressers Confused, soon-to-be opened new primary school, v good secondary school, train station (fast train to Glasgow Central 12 minutes).
What's not to like?!

Bothwell is much more expensive for housing and has no train station

Hamilton or East Kilbride? Both towns but quite 'villagy' feeling, good choice of schools, and lots going on with good opportunities to join in and make friends.

Clarkston. Stations (Clarkston or Williamwood), good bus links and really good schools. Cheaper than Newton Mearns. Further out, what about Stewarton which has a nice rural feel

Bathgate? You would get a large 4 bed new build for that price bracket and decent schools. Good train links to Glasgow and Edinburgh.

This property is within your budget, and about 45 mins commute to central Glasgow at peak times but it's not in a village, really. Local primary is in Hurlford and very good. There are plans afoot to build a "community hub" close to this house, which will include a cafe, shop selling local produce et , but it's a couple of years off yet at best.

This is a bit further out, maybe another ten minutes down the road, but Mauchline is quite a friendly wee village.

Eaglesham, further up the road than Newton Mearns and more reasonable housing but with access to the same schools.

It's an old village with a central green.

Kilmarnock is closer to Glasgow and has a railway station with fairly frequent trains. It's a town rather than a village, and again the schools are fine.

Bishopton is nice - dargarvel village has new school too.

Why does Uddingston have so many hairdressers?

This is also within your area, not sure about the school situation, and Moscow is very small. (Moscow is pronounced muss cow, btw, not the same as the one in Russia!)

Wow thank you everyone. That is great! Lots to Google Smile

That is a massive help as I needed names of places to search. I was aimlessly wandering around places on Google earth.

Come and live in West Dunbartonshire, great scenery (especially in Balloch area), affordable housing, 30 minutes to Glasgow, schools are fine.
