Moving from England to Perth

We are thinking about relocating from down south to Perth Scotland to be near my family who live in Arbroath.
We want to be in the City rather than in the outskirts as we like to go for a couple of beers and need places to walk the dog.
Can anybody give me an idea of what it’s like to live here.
Also has anybody relocated from south to North and how did you find the change in temperature.
We’re you made to feel welcome as a southerner.
Just a few things in my mind before deciding if we should move.

I can't help with Perth itself, but I moved from Yorkshire to Stirling, and then into rural Perthshire (been here 10 years now). Yes, the weather is a little cooler and a little damper but you get used to it. I think the main thing I still notice is the difference in light - definitely darker in winter and can feel quite gloomy and endless but then you get wonderfully long summer evenings. This is what I would say is the most noticeable. I've been made to feel very welcome here, everyone is very friendly and cheerful.
