Moving south of Bristol

Hi, looking for location advice. My husband has just got a permanent job in the BRI and I work in Winscombe. We currently live in Winscombe but want to move closer towards Bristol. We like the look of Wrington and maybe Backwell or chew valley area. Where would you recommend? We have three children, 6,4 and 1 so schools are definitely a consideration. All insiders advice is much appreciated. 😊

We’re based in Long Ashton which is really lovely but we’re planning on moving further out to get more outdoor space, Winscombe was on our list! Is the commute into Bristol a pain? Backwell and Wrington are both nice with good schools, especially Backwell and Nailsea secondary schools. Chew valley is lovely with a good secondary school as well.

Hi, thanks for that. Winscombe is great. Definitely recommend it for the community feel and fab walking/running/cycling. Commute is about an hour in normal traffic (lighter in lockdown), which in theory is ok but my husband needs to closer when he is on call.

Chew Valley is lovely, with some excellent primary schools. Secondary school is hit and miss I think, trading on an old good reputation, and I know of a lot of families who've taken children out to go private. However, I also know plenty of families who've been very happy. I think Churchill also has a good reputation.

Commute from the Chew Valley (depending on which village you choose) is 25-50 mins to Clifton, occasionally traffic can be horrific, and it takes longer. At the moment with so little traffic, it's a breeze.

Backwell seems super popular and I think the schools in Nailsea/Backwell have a good reputation.
