Hi! Can anyone advise on large villages/ small towns just outside Exter please? We went to look at Ottery St Mary last year but it seemed too dead for us, despite the amazing secondary school. I like Totnes but also considering Exeter outskirts. I grew up in Somerset so know the SW well, but this would be a big move down from Slough with our 2 children and we need to consider secondary school especially. We are after more countryside, a feeling of community and not too far from the M5 so we can get up to grandparents/ down to Cornwall.

What about Topsham? It’s on the water, rural-ish but very active community

Sorry, I’ve been offline. Yes it’s pretty posh. Lots of boutique shops etc. It has a train link to the centre though and is as close to village living in the city as you’re likely to get (unless you go to an actual village of course!)
