Hi really wanting some help with this please. I'm thinking of relocating from colne lancashire to rawtenstall for work and commuting. I have been to Rawtenstall a few times and have thought it was a nice place but after reading on the internet about large problems with alcohol and underage drinking plus and quite a lot of mental health issues I'm really unsure. I have two boys aged 10 and 8 and would really like some advice on whats its really like please.xxxxxx

I escaped moved from there several years ago, and in all honesty, it's the best thing I ever did. I grew up there, and do go back regularly, and whilst it's nice to visit, and the fact they have knocked the precinct down is an absolute bonus, it really is the arse end of nowhere, the graveyard of ambition. There is tons of underage drinking, and dare I say it, after 6pm, it becomes home to feral chavs with baseball hats on and joggers tucked into there socks. If they aren't drunk, they are stoned going off my niece and nephew and there doesn't seem to be an awful lot for kids/young people to actually do there that doesn't involve going out of the valley. Saying that though, some of the schools are particularly good - Waterfoot Primary and BRGS especially.

I dunno. It feels oppressive if I visit for more than a few days. I couldn't imagine living there again, ever.

I know Rawtenstall and think it's on the up. M&S simply food are arriving soon, which is a good sign. There's a nice selection of deli/cafes. It's a good bus link to manchester.

I think its a lot nicer than surrounding areas inc Burnley, bacup etc.

Not seen many chavs as described above.

Why not go to Ramsbottom area instead? I live there, it's just down the road and very nice, although more expensive for it.
