Am I too old to be seeing someone who is 22?

It's very early days but we seem to get on really well and have a lot in common.

My concern is that I am going to be 30 in a couple of weeks and he's only just turned 22.

He seems to be very mature while I'm the opposite and look and act younger than I am.

My main worry is what is family are going to think. I know he is very close to his parents and his older sister and I don't think they will approve. I'm almost 30, a single mother and I don't work (I'm in uni full time).

Am I too old to be seeing someone who is 22?

No! Not at all. And it's none of your family's business

Why don't you just play it by ear and have fun? Worry about what others will think and if he's Mr Right if you get to the ready to settle down for life together stage.

I think you are right ScummyMummy. I have been single for so long that I'm over thinking things.

At least our friends approve, since they are the ones who set us up.

No you're not. Anyone who thinks otherwise is being a bit short sighted frankly. Just enjoy it!

My sister just got married- her DH is now 23, she is 33. They met when he was 20.

And they have a son together, as well as sis's 2 girls.

TBH, I had doubts at the beginning- but he's a lovely bloke and a great dad/stepdad. And he adores my sister. What more can you want?

Go for it!!

I'm 35, my OH is 23 (soon to be 24 I might add - I'm not some sort of pervert! ). There will always be someone critical and if it's not his age, it'll be his hairline, his dress-style, his car, his job, his teeth, blah blah - you get the picture!

I love him to bits, he's allowed me to have all the fun I missed out on my 20s because I was trying to be too perfect. I must admit at first I thought the age gap would drive us apart and it drives me mental that he doesn't get my cultural differences, but we're very happy.

My DP is 9 years younger than me and he's absolutely my Mr Right. Agree with Ski above - they keep you younger for longer and the only problem is when the younger guy doesn't get your cultural references: 'Who's Metal Mickey?'... BAH!

I had to explain where the term bunnyboiler came from, contrary to the belief of those in their 20s who think it came from Michelle from BB5, it didn't!

"Who's Dogtanion?"
"What's The Breakfast Club?"
"Who was Alexis married to first?"

Oh don't worry about it at all. It would hardly be unusual if he was 8 years older than you (even if you were 22). The important thing is how you get on and whether you want to be together.

I saw a 22yr old yesterday, he needed to pull his jeans up. Youth of today.

Obviously it's fine as illustrated by all the responses on here.

You sound very happy.

I'm 8 years older than DH - we've been married for 5 years this year. 8 years is nothing. Nobody would be saying anything if he was older than you

My friend was the same age as you when she started seeing her DH who was then 22. Now they are married with two kids.

I have a friend who's 32 and her BF is 22. They have just got engaged!!

I'm 29 and DH is 25. Lots of my friend are older than their OH's. There's nothing wrong with it. Your family will support you because they will want to see you happy!!

Good luck
