does anyone else feel like this? or am i just a sad sad person?
i spend a lot of my time on mn. when i first came here, i liked the anonymity of the site, i had never used the internet for this sort of interaction before. but i have seen how people have fromed friendships online. and are happy to see each other, or whatever the netspeak is . but i guess i am just feeling sorry for myself.

PrettyCandles Tue 03-May-05 20:46:27

Nope. You are not alone - many of us feel this way.

Nothing wrong with this, IMO, after all, many of us - especially the FTMs - feel very isolated, and this is way of reducing the isolation.

CountessDracula Tue 03-May-05 20:46:54

Not just online but offline too! Try going to a meet up.

CountessDracula Tue 03-May-05 20:47:44

ps stitch, you will soon form friendships too

mmmmchocolate Tue 03-May-05 20:49:43

i feel like this too sometimes. Everyone seems to know everything about everyone else, i am sure it just takes a matter of time to start to be reconised, must be my turn soon x

i did go to a meetup, but we didnt really click. nice girls, just nothing in common other than the fact that we live in the same area. other than the meetup thread, i havent chatted with them on any other thread.
thankyou for your support cd and pretty candles.

CountessDracula Tue 03-May-05 20:51:12

stitch if it helps I have noticed you and I don't post that much any more - I know for eg that your name is stitch after Lilo & ...

So stick around!

stitch Tue 03-May-05 20:51:18

yep thats me to haven. morning noon and night!
rather than doing shopping or banking, or even checking email, i am always on mn {grin}

snafu Tue 03-May-05 20:52:04

I think it takes a really long time and you probably have to meet people IRL too for 'proper' friendships to form. If it's any consolation some days I feel as if I've been here half my life and other days as if I'm the new girl in the playground...

WigWamBam Tue 03-May-05 20:52:35

Many of us are only here because we're bored and lonely, and it's a good place to "meet" like minded people. There are a number of people here I really clicked with - similar sense of humour, similar views of the world - and I'm sure that it'll be the same for you, stitch.

stitch Tue 03-May-05 20:52:52

lol cd, you ve put me in an excellent mood now!
oh ... life and its pleasures.
ooh, just occured to me, hope you noticed me in a positive light.

MarsLady Tue 03-May-05 20:53:40

well I recognise your name stitch. As has been said I'm sure you'll form lots of friendships. I also liked the anonymity, but have found myself really chatting away to people, but then I do that in RL too. It is a great way to while away time whilst the DTs are sleeping and I should be doing jobs around the house lol

stitch Tue 03-May-05 20:54:05

thank you ladies!
will now stop feeling sorry for myself, and put energy into something else...

PrettyCandles Tue 03-May-05 20:55:14

Sorry, stitch, I misunderstood. Doesn't change my opinion though. TBH, I'm not sure whether I have any relationships with other posters (I put it that way, because I don't want to offend anyone who feels they have a relationship with me), mostly because I find it very difficult to keep them straight in my mind. I certainly recognise names (yours being one of them) but I can't always place who they are or what I know about them. I have the same difficulty in RL, but there it's marginally easier because I have more info to go on - here there are no visual cues or mannerisms to give me more information about who the person is. Still, I like it here .

stitch Tue 03-May-05 20:59:45

yes, i like it too pretty candles. it was just that id noticed lots of people seemed to know lots about each other. felt like the new kid in class, when ive bee n spending a lot of time here for about six months or so.
it is difficult to keep everyone straight as there are no other cues as you said. ive seen your name crop up manytimes though, but i dont think i remember anything about you, iyswim.

JoolsToo Tue 03-May-05 21:00:55

stitch - I know you

Posey Tue 03-May-05 21:08:16

When I first came on here I noticed all the "friendships" and hoped I would be like them too. But then I realised some people are just very good at jumping into conversations and getting noticed, some are not so good (me included). Now it doesn't bother me, I don't feel left out, I just post where I want but don't tend to get involved in conversations. I've been on here around about 2 years now and have been to 3 meet-ups (my first was with prettycandles!).
I guess what I'm saying is you can get very involved, probably if you like the "chat" or have a specific thing in common with others (like you're pregnant), or can just come and go as you please. Some people seem to be in every thread for 2 or 3 months, then disappear (burn-out!) or plod on like a lot of others.
BTW after all this time on mn, not one person said they'd like to meet me on that other thread . Some people get noticed, some don't. Hope that makes you feel better.

stitch Tue 03-May-05 21:09:10

yup jt, i remember having a huge disagreement with you!

SenoraPostrophe Tue 03-May-05 21:11:09

Like posey says - it's just that some people barge in on every conversation and have better memories for usernames than others. I am good at the first, bit rubbish at the latter but OK.

MarsLady Tue 03-May-05 21:11:58

At the risk of sounding too syrupy... I recognise your name too Posey. I'm sure that you are one of the first that I remember. I am on of the "jump right in" types. I'm like that in RL too. Basically nosey, that's me!

PrettyCandles Tue 03-May-05 21:12:19

It was my first one too, Posey! And having met you in RL, I find it much easier to keep track of who you are, IYSWIM, on Mumsnet.

The daft thing is, for me, that I never look at the profiles, because I want to retain the anonymity.

SenoraPostrophe Tue 03-May-05 21:13:31

who fancies a competition to see who can be on every thread?

no, maybe not.

Stich and Posey I remember you both. I remember agreeing with you about something but not sure what.

stitch Tue 03-May-05 21:16:27

marslady did you used to be munched to many mars lady?
i remember loving that name!
senora, i recall your name too, but also cant remember what it was about.
just remember having diametrically opposing views with jools and that she is gobbledigooks mum.

stitch Tue 03-May-05 21:17:44

senora, that had i still been breastfeeding,, i would have won, especially in the wee hours.
but now, no.
maybe i should have another baby just to have a good excuse to be online all the time?
