BF is also used for best friend. I think most people are able to read the acronym into the context. I hope anyway!

TInk, sometimes BF as best friend or boyfriend can be quite confusing, I have found it to be so a few times anyway!

for breastfeeding, it's usually in lower case anyway and I always put bf'ing to be clear.

Can someone clarify the etiquette regarding the plural of DS? Because DSS is obviously Darling Step-Son and I can't bring myself to do what some people seem to do and pass DS's off as plural. Would it be DSs? Or is that still a bit ambiguous?

gagamama - I use DSs, or would if I had more than one. I don't think it's ambiguous. But I think if you are worried, use DC instead (I like to use DCn rather than DCs for similarly pedantic reasons but it doesn't seem to have taken off in the wider community )

I don't get why you don't just type "son" or "sons". Why the code? I'm new to this site and I find it very jarring to read as I don't know what all the abbreviations mean.

It took me a while to get used to using DH for hubby. I'd never call him 'darling' in real life (IRL) and it irritated me. Although some people on hear get stabby at the use of hubby or babe so you're best off sticking to etiquette and DH.

I joined an expectant mums group in 1996 and we used DH way back then - with the understanding it was 'dear husband' but also when necessary 'dickhead'. Which came in useful over the years as many of us divorced! Still functioning as a group now the 'babies' are 18!
