So, if I was looking for a man (Mr Darcey), where might I find one (Mr Darcey), where should I start (Mr Darcey)?

Perhaps the local church may have some eligible bachelors of a suitable temprament?

One could strike up a conversation during Evensong (or somesuch) and mayhap invite a potential suitor to high tea with mother on the morrow?

(feel free to ignore; its 20years since I read Pride & Prejudice)

I don't do the church being a pagan. It would be wrong to pretend. I've been single for 7 years and I think I need to change this now.

scrooged Sun 04-Jan-09 23:24:10

bump. I'm being serious (apart from the Mr Darcey. He doesn't exist sad)

I joined Match blush

Mumsnet? There are a few blokes who post.

Have you looked at internet dating sites? http://www.plentyoffish.com/ is one to start with perhaps... as it's free.

No idea how you work out which men are 'Mr Darcey' equivalents though.

scrooged Sun 04-Jan-09 23:32:39

And? Did it work? I'm very pickey about men, no football, no pissheads, no weed heads. I've ruled most of Derby out. Even Shrek's looking attractive at the moment. blush

Hey scrooged, if you take up the milk-round (remember from your other thread about school travel?), you might meet other milkies or even posties!
Single Dad's at your son's school? Scouts? football? (argh, he has asthma, doesn't he - does he play football?)

<p.s. it's Mr Darcy, btw>

scrooged Sun 04-Jan-09 23:35:18

I signed up for a couple but there were way to many weird blokes. The free ones had more than the paying ones.

Are there really single blokes on here?

Would like:
Looks (don't mind but not a face ache)
Mannars
Brains.

Shrek has a nice personality, gent like Mr Darcey (and maybe looks too). Am I asking too much?

scrooged Sun 04-Jan-09 23:37:10

Lol! I can't spell!
I don't get to meet the dad's at ds's school, there is a couple of single ones though but single because their wives have died. sad ds doesn't do the scouts, no single ones on my course (unless I want to date an 18 year old and my life isn't that bad).

LadyOfWaffle Sun 04-Jan-09 23:37:26

That a plug nannynick? wink grin

MrsSeanBean Sun 04-Jan-09 23:42:13

Try a military riding club, lots of dashing Ruperts in breeches.

thumbwitch Sun 04-Jan-09 23:43:04

Does your dS do any activities that might involve potentially single Dad's? Or are you hoping for a baggage-free bloke?

Depending on how you feel about it, with a young son etc., getting a lodger might be the way to go - worked for me! grin But it is a bigger risk when there is a child involved.

Or, what about a handyman type person? IF those chick-lit books are to be believed, there is bound to be some fabulous single plumber/chippy/gardener/decorator bloke out there who just hasn't found the right girl yet - find some jobs (not expensive) that need doing and start getting them in for quotes!

scrooged Sun 04-Jan-09 23:43:33

There isn't one near where I live. Could you send me some pictures though grin

scrooged Sun 04-Jan-09 23:46:08

I don't mind someone with a child but I've never met a single dad. I'm going to take ds to a climbing wall next week to size the place up. We don't have space for a lodger. I do need some jobs doing (on the house). Do they charge you for quotes though? Cash is sparce at the moment.

nannynick Sun 04-Jan-09 23:50:38

Well, I fit the criteria so far I think... pity I'm quite some way from Derby.

no football - I hate football
no pissheads - I don't drink much, honest.
no weed heads - No drugs for me.

LadyOfWaffle - well, there's no harm in hinting smilegrin

thumbwitch Sun 04-Jan-09 23:51:43

try these!!

thumbwitch Sun 04-Jan-09 23:53:24

or these! wink

scrooged Sun 04-Jan-09 23:55:15

They don't do it for me. All muscle means no brains!

Colin Firth maybe? Pierce Brosnin (sp?), erm....

scrooged Sun 04-Jan-09 23:56:00

Thanks nannynick smile I'll look you up if I ever move your way. wink

thumbwitch Mon 05-Jan-09 00:00:33

oh scrooged <shakes head sadly> - not necessarily! If he were a, for e.g. landscape gardener, he might even have a degree in horticulture, which would defo not make him brainless, but would give him a bod like that!

just for you then...

scrooged Mon 05-Jan-09 00:03:23

Haaa! Thanks. He's lovely!!!!!

Do you think the godess would send him to me if I wished hard enough? grin

thumbwitch Mon 05-Jan-09 00:07:50

give it a go - although I think the correct way to go about it is to thank the goddess as though she is going to do it, not wish for it as that implies possible failure!

You know, I tried this "asking the universe for what you want" thing once - it was amazing! I got a lodger (who is now DH - who knew?!), 3 clients who had disappeared for a long while came back and I got a tax rebate! so I asked for an Audi TT and I got one of those competition cards through the door for an Audi TT!! But at that point my belief collapsed (too cynical by far, plus I thought my luck must have run out by then!) so I didn't win it.

Good luck with Colin! Perhaps you shoudl change your MN name to MrsFirthtobe, that would imply that you expect it to happen! grin

scrooged Mon 05-Jan-09 00:11:55

PMSL! It beats avenanap and scrooged! Isn't he married though? I couldn't have him then. I like his qualities, if I could have those in a single, attractive man then I'd be more than happy.

thumbwitch Mon 05-Jan-09 00:18:10

well at least you have a blueprint of a man to put out into the universe/ask your goddess for. Best of luck with your Colinalike - believe it will happen and it just might!
