How much younger is much..?

OK. So I met a man about 3 or 4 years ago. We had a lot of chemistry. Nothing happened but we were clearly very attracted to each other.

Anyway, circumstances happened, we lost contact and then covid hit and I haven't seen him for a couple of years.

I bumped into him yesterday - he was working so we couldn't really chat but he messaged me in the evening to say it had been a really nice surprise. We've exchanged a few messages back and forth and it's clear we both still find each other attractive.

I'm not interested in a relationship, i wouldn't be a serious prospect for him anyway.

Would a summer fling - just a bit of fun - be a ridiculous idea?

I've just turned 46, he's 25.

I’m 37 and would find it weird going with a 25 year old. I’d feel like his mother. And it would make me feel older than I already do.

Bit of summer fun & rumpy pumpy sounds fine. He was 21 when you met him, he was a new born baby when you were 21.

Of course a fling is OK...
Back when you just met him - and he was 21 - I’d possibly say be a bit careful as he is still quite young. And people’s brains don’t stop maturing till about 24.
But he is a little older now, so both are now consenting adults.
Have fun

Definitely go for a bit of summer fun.

As long as it’s just fun times go ahead. Be kind. Walk away when it’s not fun.

I personally find it disturbing, you could be his mum

Fun is fine.
Don't expect it to turn into anything else though.

Why not ? No one bats an eyelid at a young woman with an older man.

No , as much as the ' idea ' of it might seem great and exciting , it's best to not go there.

Have a great summer OP 😉

Oh I absolutely wouldn't want it to become anything else. It would be ridiculous to even consider that.

I don't know. Maybe I'm just running away with the idea. But some fun and some sex would be nice, you know?

Out of interest, why?

Ridiculous idea.
You could be a similar age to his Mum.

Have a word with yourself.

I don't understand this problem with age gaps between grown up
fully functioning adults.
I mean it's one of the last discriminations , no other kind of difference would be tolerated nowadays.
Just do what makes you both happy, op and to hell with what strangers
think.

OP isn’t his mum though and he is a grown up.

OP I have been here, it was a lot of fun. Enjoy.

Wow I'm 32 and wouldn't go with a 25 year old!

Fling sounds a great idea. You are both adults (and he has been an adult for some time, he’s not 18.) ignore the grumps.
Have a fun summer!

im 31 and i wouldn't!

I know that he's an adult etc but gosh if that was my son, the age gap would piss me off! Your old enough to be his mum! Having said that some guys enjoy older women! Why not have a fling with someone your age? Sorry, just my opinion Smile

It would just be nice to have a bit of a summer romance with someone lovely. Just carefree and without expectation.

I don't agree with you.
I would feel exactly the same about my 25 yr old dd being taken advantage of by a 46 yr old man as I would my 25 yr old ds being taken advantage of by a 46 yr old woman (or same sex relationship).

I was with a bunch of 24 and 25 yr old lads this morning (watching football). Trust me, 24/25 yr olds haven't 'grown up' yet.

There is a MN rule of thumb that says if you halve the age of the older person, then add 7 years, that is an acceptable gap. It makes a lot of sense.
So, the youngest person a 46 yr old should go out with is a 30 yr old according to that wisdom.

I would say no to this. The gap is huge. I would say the same about a man too.

I think it's embarrassing. I'd be cringing at the idea of a 25 year old actually being attracted to a woman of your age.

I'd also feel the same if a 46 year old man tried it on with my 25 year old DD (I have a DD of 25, btw).

It's creepy.

I run a charity. I am 50. There are a lot of younger men there as clients. We chat about charity-related issues. I've had some 'unprofessional' offers from 20 and 30 something men, and lots of flattery. I am not interested as not single. If I was, still not interested as have nothing in common with people I see as being from a different generation. I suspect there is a certain Mrs Robinson vibe about this, and a belief that older women are experienced and offer a good time. Flattering perhaps, but will it work out as a longer term relationship? Probably not.
